Buyer Beware

I bought 2 sound systems from Dallas at Dallee, was not thorougly impressed by them. Tried to return one unopened and unused to him and he wants to charge me a 20% re-stocking fee. I would have been better off buying the Aristo-Craft versions from a retailer as I would have no problem with a return. The Aristo versions are cheaper. I thought by buying direct i would get better service, so much for that.

Nico

Why were you not impressed by them?

I think they provide good value for money and should not be compared to a Phoenix which is more than twice the money.
A 20% restocking fee is not unusual for any type of consumer product.

I agree with Tony, there is alot of info available on the net for anything that we wish to buy. Do you homework and make an informed purchase so you do not have to worry about returning something. (Unless it is defective)

I bought a board for my Aristocraft Uboat. All it did was hiss. So I bought the amplifier, and it hissed louder. I sold the whole thing on ebay for 50 dollars just to get rid of it, and Will NEVER buy another one. They suck. This card did not even come close to sounding like a train.

I could be mistaken of course, but, as far as I can tell, diesel sounds do not hiss. A steam sound would hiss.
When turned on diesel sounds give an idle sound.

That’s the new realistic “leaking air line” sound… doncha know Tony?

ha ha ha…

Greg

Ok so it was a screeching hissing humming not sounding anything like a diesel sound. Also Dallee boards are monophonic, meaning that when the horn honks, the diesel motor sound goes away. It can only do one sound at a time. I am glad mine is gone, and will never buy another one.

Tony,
I did do my homework, but when a PH hobbies sound system that is 10 yrs old sounds better than a brand new sound unit. I do not feel like I got my moneys worth. I bought directly from the manufacturer, and I am returning an unopened product, why should I be charged. Dallas at Dallee talked me into buying to units for my FA, FB set up. If I am not happy with one why should I be stuck with two. I work for a manufacturer, and our number one priority is customer satisfaction, I may have been inclined to buy more Dallee products, but I am not going to be penalized for not being happy with it.

Paul.

Not all Dallee diesel sound cards are monophonic. The GE for one isn’t. There are others.

Nic.

How could you know what they sounded like if the sound system was returned unopened.

I bought two and installed one.

True.
You get what you pay for.

A 20% restoick fee is unusual. I have never delt with consumer product that charged a restocking fee. That goes to show you who the better companies are. How much effort is it to restock. Thats just another way for someone to make more money. I buy something I end up not being happy with it return the product (I pay shipping) then get charged to restock. What a crime.

I’d just keep it, and throw it up on the “Evil Bay” before I would pay someone, or a retailer, to send back, and re-stock it!!! Oh and never do business with em again!! Regal

Astute members of the purchasing public read the fine print BEFORE they make a purchase of anything. Or at least they should.
I know I do.
If Dallee do not clearly state what their terms and conditions are when purchasing you have a case.

If they do clearly state the terms and conditions I can only re-state, CAVEAT EMPTOR.

Have you really looked at their site? As a newbie with only basic knowledge about sound cards, I gave up trying to figure out their product line. Their site is put together to serve only customers who already know what their products do and sound like. I even went so far as to email a few questions and received an unbelievably non-information response. I moved on to look at other brands.

Hi Jim This is a really important point, not just with this site, but lots of sites/businesses/events/etc. It seems that most of the world is geared toward informing those that already know. In any endeavor there is knowledge you have that you don't realize you have, and you MUST get that information to new people.

How many websites out there have BASIC information on how block control works, or basic understanding of what is required to get RC into a locomotive, or onboard battery, that DOESNT require any previous knowledge?

ARGH!

Sorry, thats a sore point with me. Rant off!
