Property lines … out here we have easements along the lines for utilities and roads. Off set fences are not unusual. I’d build to the line and use the other for access.

I bet you do have that “out there”. However I also bet you are still legally allowed to shoot a man if caught in the act of horse theivery!

You betcha!

Also in New Mexico… Law of the West. Open carry in NM. You can legally pack any side arm, or rifle on any public space. They do restrict the carrying into saloons though. City halls, courthouses and etc are also off limits. A few years back a local liked to walk the streets with his rifle slung over his shoulder, and two Colt 45’s on his hips. Ya he got stopped a few times, he never had anything chambered. Got a lot of attention. BTW no one ever harassed him.

I have to confess… I’ve become a butt modeler…

It’s not my fault… The wife has a new hobby … That means I have a new hobby.

This is what I’ve been doing instead of trains (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

Last time I got on a horse I weighed near 400# and the cinch (sp) strap broke and the horse threw me like a giant rag doll and I have a permanently messed up back. Two lessons learned, horses are the evil and 400# people are not meant to fly. I have lost the weight and stayed away from horses. Lessons learned!

Sorry Devon S. I feel for you… but I had to laf and can see It now… Your quote on rag doll and horse like in a cartoon was darn funny. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

OH its dang funny now. It was dang funny to the spectators at the time also. My family has no problem finding humor in someone else’s misfortunes. I wish I could have had a third person perspective of the event as I am sure it was quite a sight to see.

Horses are not evil. They respond to the input the rider gives them. If you are a Dunce, they suffer you badly and the outcome can be “not good”.

lol you’ll never convince me that horses are not demons in the flesh. No actually I really have nothing against them. I have no particular use for them, but I have nothing against them. I have been around horses in some form or fashion almost all of my life. I have seen horses with a temperament so mild anyone could ride them and then I have seen horses that just were plain nasty, kinda like people I guess. The first horse I can remember being around was such a good horse that when I was three or so I would sneak down to the coral where she was kept and call her into her stall and climb the side of the stall and she would slide over and let me climb on. I would grab her main and she would take me for a ride. My mom never would believe this was how it happened until she finally followed me and just watched. She said it was crazy in that the horse new what was up and helped me get on and then would shift to catch my falling weight so I wouldn’t fall off. It also would let our dog ride it totally unprovoked or un-assisted. My sister taught them both to do it, the horse would slide up to a cut bank we had in the coral and the dog would hop on from the bank and around they would go. Now the funny part is when my middle sister, whose horse it was, would get on her they were a terror together. My sister barrel raced her and when the two of them were together the horse was as wild as a march hair and it was all my sister could do to stay on but they were fast and on the edge of out of control all the time. That horse would adapt to its rider.

But the next horse was just plan mean and nasty all the time. The only one who could get near it was my sister. It almost killed the dog who thought he could catch a ride (we think no one witnessed it) but it came back to the house smashed. So they are just like anything else some are good some not so good and each with a personality. The horse that threw me was actually a great horse but when a 400 pound fat man is on your back your probably not happy anyway and then when all that weight starts to slide off. . .well I would try to ditch it also. So the horse was not at fault and really neither was I, it was a set of circumstances that went sour.

But thats not going to stop me from thinking they are Satan Spawn. . .(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif) I still hurt thinking about it.

Gee, I haven’t ridden a horse in years. It was one of the those things my one Ex girlfriend liked to do, but like most things she did, she was clueless at it. At the one ranch, they acted like I was just a city boy, who had no clue. When I had the horse gingerly sidestep so I could get over and adjust my Ex’s stirrups, the ranch hands were kind of shocked. After that, they didn’t watch me so much, but they kept a close eye on her.

Generally speaking this is a true statement. However, I have known a few in years past that put the lie to this accepted fact.

There is one drawback … I’m usually the only gent to a mess of woman! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

That is a drawback? Really?

Most of the female equestrian types I knew were rather, they were, um, easy on the eyes. Not all of them, but most of them.

When I was about 6-8 we had an old Appaloosa, and one day riding him bare back , with just a halter and a rope I lost hold of the rope and tried to reach for it while Charlie Brown, the horse, was loping, well I wound up hanging upside down under his neck and he slowed and stopped, and when I dropped to the ground, he just looked at me with a " What the hell are you doing now" look on his face, backed away and trotted back to his coral CORRAL. A few years later a different horse as I walked by just grabbed my by the shoulder and tossed me about 5 feet, so Devon I agree, devils spawn

i fully agree. allthough they are dumber than cows, they only are agressive after handling errors or when they are frightened.

even the beduins in the Negev know that. (specially, where there could be mines lying around…)
