Just getting started in live steam and just received my new MIMI (ruby) yesterday. One thing I have read alot about all over the net concerning live steam is the different adapters and such that people look for for fueling their loco. I don’t know if this would be of interest to any of you but I bought 7.8 oz cans of butane brand IWATANI. They have a plunger type head very similar to the RONSON refill type. The ACCUCRAFT MIMI AND RUBY have a refill system that is compatible with this RONSON type refiller. If any of you use this type of can with the plunger head, I have a modification for the loco that will make these cans work without any leaking or spillage.
All I did was find some fairly stiff rubber (I found some round stuff about 1/4 inch in diameter and 2 inches long) and cut a thickness of it off so it would be just a smidge (technical term) higher when pushed over the little nipple sticking up on the loco fuel tank. I drilled a very tiny hole, maybe 1/64 or less in the middle of this rubber washer type thingeee that I made and slipped it down on the fuel tank nipple. Now when I press the canister down on the nipple, it contacts the hard rubber which compresses abit and allows the fuel to transfer without abit of spillage.
Does anyone know if this type of fuel canister with the RONSON style filler is common and available all over??? I sure hope so. If you know of any other brands with this style, please let me know. These were $2.15 each at ACADEMY SPORTS.
here is their website.
