Building the CR&N Deadline:July 2017

Chuck, so are you planning on the “party” being an all nighter some night in late July?

Bring plenty of mosquito repellent.

Oh no David, no all nighters just during the day when I can see what I’m doing. Besides I know Devon and I also know that he’ll have his railroad up and running before the August meeting. BTW what’s mosquito repellent, we don’t have any of those things around here during the summer unless you’re living in a swamp and there anit any of those around here.

Little more bench work and a little more rock wall. Step installed.

New tree and climbing rose

Very nice Devon .

Are we there yet?

Uh Devon, that climbing rose? Looks like a string… Nope you can’t fool me!

yer bud,

John

Good progress. You just might make your deadline…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

One can hope

You’re getting there Devon. I may have stated this before, but I will mention it again, the rock walls look darn good. If I didn’t know better, I might start believing that you know what you are doing…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif) All kidding aside, the layout is starting to take shape and come July when you drive that golden spike, you will have a pretty fine layout.

Now get your a$$ back to work, time’s a wastin.

You’re saying that Devoning is a good thing???(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Its neither good nor bad. Its the results that count.

It is turning out to be a good thing. I have decided there is two ways I could have tackled this. I could have taken a weed eater and nocked the weeds down and put some track down and been running trains last year. And I know for many that has worked very well and gets them playing quicker. The other was to do what I did. Which was plan, dream, speculate, overthink, and rework until it was time to pull the trigger. Then take my time, do all the things that needed to be done to prep the area for the long haul and build up my road on a firm foundation that will last me a long while. Taking a year and a half to do it (with a damn long winter in the middle). I am glad I am doing it as I have done. Had I bilt this the way I was going to from the start it wouldn’t have worked and I would be redoing it. All the Devoning is paying off in a relatively well thought out and smooth build. Many of the challenges have been already worked out before I started construction.

So I have no regerts (I would be mad at my tattoo artist) and when I am done I know I will have a road that is built to last the way I want it. IT may not be for everyone but on July 29th my birthday train will have a real sense of accomplishment running around with it.

On the contrary, that’s why I told him to get his rear back to work. Devon has come a long way and is making good progress and now is not the time for him to return to his Devoning ways …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif) I am doing enough of that for him, myself and four or five other folks!!

That reminds me, I have a Devonish project I need to get Devoning on if I am gonna git it properly Devoned.

More dirt, more walls, and I decided I needed a tunnel This side isn’t quite done obviously.

This side looks better. I have a low growing silvery white creeping plant that likes rocky areas and I will plant it on top and let it cascade down over the sides.

I am feeling like I am winning the battle with the dirt. Those pipes in the foreground will be just about the extent of the wall. It will follow the contour of the track. The rest of this corner will be bench work. I might be getting there.

Devon,

The tunnel is a nice addition. I guess the fantastic drone video from Ray got you thinking. Just a bit of advice … don’t try to build a layout like Ray’s. No one can. Not even Ray. I heard he had aliens build his. Same little guys that built the pyramids. Maybe you can hire them to do your rock work too.

Now it all makes sense Bob. Those rock walls that I have been bragging on were built by the same aliens Ray used. I thought they looked familiar. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Sorry Devon, you just can’t catch a break. But I tried…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

The tunnel adds a lot of character to the layout. Keep up the good work.

Devon is doing rock these days?

Yeah I don’t think what Ray does is physically possible. It has to be aliens. Actually I had seen the drone video yet. I saw it posted but haven’t peeked. I knew I wanted a tunnel, I just didn’t know I wanted it there until today. It cried out to me.
