Large Scale Central

Building Pearce Yard

Evolution is the center of my railroad design…it lasts til a better idea comes along…I’m trying to prioritize needs right now…getting stuff done that will let me get up and operating right off the bat…and then I can work on refining things…I’ve had the ties down for 3-4 years for some of the industrial sidings just waiting for me to take an hour and spike rail to them…Speaking of which, the engine terminal turnout and the three way switch for the yuard throat are done!

Cool…

T’was too hot and humid after work today to do much of anything outside comfortably…so I sat around and thought about things…a couple of things Ric said had been running round my noggin…so I thought this up…having the mainline go around the yard with one track tying back to it…instead of a through the yard main…

Whatchall think?

Like it and has two run-a-rounds.
Guess I should of said, for Eng’s. movements. (http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/noelw/Smilies/good.gif)

Well one run around…the siding on the TT lead is a ready track for serviceing locomotives so would not function as a runaround for switching…

Bart, that last drawing configuration looks good…

Despite a little job that turned into an all day project for Mom, and repairing wreck damage on 120, I did find some time to work on the yard…I milled out and nailed down all the ties, and began pounding down the first sticks of rail…

Okay. That’ll sure work. Nice flow and looks like a way to assemble and break down trains.

Works but since the second track is a ready track why not save a switch and just run it into the turntable? Gives a bit of extra length to the second track too.

Good Point!!!

Duh? Why didn’t I see that?

Hmmm definately more better…

Much more better…!!

Who makes those frogs? What code are they? Seems like everything’s code 250 or less and I’m using 332. I’m trying to get started hand laying in a few areas. I think I’ll need to do some more studying first!

I hear switches aren’t that bad, but they sure look intimidating. I’d better study Bob’s pictures some more. I guess I can always learn after a few tries.
Nice work BTW.

I do…they;re resin castings turned out in the WV&K Shops…yep they’re code 250 cause thats what I could get for el cheapo Aluminium rail…Handlaying is not hard at all…tedious yes…but not hard…the most critical areas are the guard rails and the points…I’m good at points…but still have to wrestle with guardrails from time to time…

I had two basic loops on my layout. I added a passing siding in the middle that connected both. It was great to be able to park a train from either loop there and run another one out.

I’m not sure how long your drawing is, but if you can have a train assembled and wait on the siding while another pulls in, it adds fun to operating. So I like your plan too.

Dad likes your star cruiser sketch and so do I!

Your latest iteration is much more railroad-like.

Welp in celebration of completeing my 43rd Orbit of the Sun…I decided finally to get the rest of the rail down in Pearce Yard…

Theres still about a cars length of rail to spike down on each track…then its complete for this phase.

Funny how much smaller it seems when you start putting cars on it. I’m thinking I’m going to need at least 8 more feet of yard track and then another 8 feet or so to close up the other end yard ladder. This will do for a staging yard for this season though. i’m runnign sort of a scenic railway kinda action for now…passenger excursions and photo freights.

Hmmm! I remember my 43rd orbit of the sun quite well even though it was a hundred years ago.

I guess advanced age is beginning to show Bart. You’re getting to be as slow as me getting things done. That’s a really neat looking 3 way switch so I guess you’ve still got your eyesight.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY by the way.
