Cool idea

I bet you have a stash of “Transformers”

It looked great at York… and he wasn’t even finished with it yet…

Agreed! Very cool how it detaches to replace the original front. If LGB was still making these you could probably sell them the idea.

Excellent photos and “how you did it”. As Andy said - “It looked great at York”.

That is fantastic!!! All it needs now is a K5LA horn on top.

Reminds me of the San Diegan back in the 80s.

Here’s my recreation in Microsoft Train Simulator (before the time of ditch lights)

That’s what I thought you meant Ralph …however my hero as a kid was Evil Kenevil…sure wish I had his rocket cycle I ramped out the attic window 3 stories up 30 years ago

Did someone say Transformers?

Yep Optimus is still in his sealed box. My others are in a bin somewhere, but they are all in rough played with shape.

Probably too “new” for most here, but if you are my age then you’ll fondly remember this:

That explains a lot

Ralph

Ralph, it really does… Rooster was on the bike when it went out of the attic… We never could fill in that hole…

Matt…A lot of these guys had a powder blue leisure suit with a fat white belt, clogs , and a new Ford Pinto. How do you think we came about otherwise ?

If I show a kitbashed 1700 car will you accept compromise like I have so far? It’s a kitbash…counting fluting is unfair. I fear your eye on Amtrash.

Forgot to add they had hair too…back in the day

Ralph you forgot Rooster played with My Little Poney and Strawberry Short Cake. Transformers were too complicated for him.

Voltron was way cooler.

I’d love to see it.

And don’t worry. I’m way more forgiving on G scale kitbashes. Cause there’s not much out there to bash into appropriate Amtrash…so to speak.

Nice! This thread is enough to make a guy want to model Amtrack!

Matt…it started it’s life as an Aristo Smoothside observation car and has been turned into what you see. I still have more work to do and it’s a bit short but it’s a kitbash and not a scratchbuild.

That looks really good.

I can definitely see it as a 1700 series. You’ve got the shape down fine.

The only real detail a 1700 series needs to look right (and I’m sure you’ll add it when you get to that point in the build) is to make sure the baggage door looks like a corrugated roll up door. Probably the most unique feature on the 1700s when compared to other Amtrak bags. Well that and the vestibule door. But you’ve already got that part done.

Rooster,

You really do nice work.
