Building and Bashing Amtrak Equipment

The only Amtrak item that LGB (Marklin) has released as of yet is a material handling boxcar.

I ask didi they put out a material handling car like this:

Or did they just paint silver on a 50’ boxcar and call it a MHC: Big difference IMHO(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Also what scale is their car as I run 1/29th?

Yes and no. The true, original LGB is long gone (Lehmann). The LGB of today is really Marklin in disguise.

Well, with that positive news perhaps they will do some reruns of stuff LGB released in the past and I won’t have to cut up stuff to make what I need?

Rooster, you know what the answer to that is…

Dream on.

I didn’t know that answer Maynard but I question …Are you sure?

Don’t give up hope, if I was a betting man, I would think that Marklin might be more inclined to produce more modern stuff than older stuff.

Look at Kader/Bachmann, they are considering using molds they already have, saves development cost.

Don’t give up hope Rooster.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I had heard somewhere that Marklin doesn’t really see the U.S. as a legitimate market ( something like 10-20% of their total market share). In fact, a well known and dedicated fromer LGB employee had a parting of ways over the issue because he believed the U.S. was worth more time and effort to sell to.

Only time will tell whether they produce any more Amtrak. However, bashing is the best way to get what you want. And Rooster, I must say, you’ve been doing a fantastic job with your models. Bashing also gives you unique one-of-a-kind models that NO ONE else has.

Didn’t Aristo offer a club car/ railer .

Dave,

LGB simply painted the 50’ boxcar in Amtrak scheme. I don’t know they specifically advertised it as a “material handling car” or just a Amtrak boxcar and the less informed modelers started calling it a MHC.

Double post…

Sean, yes… A 3 trailer set was the club car one year…

I have my original set and a used set I bought a year or so ago…

Huumm… When was the last time the BS ran mail via Amtrak in their operations? Let alone all six of them ??

I think you need to sell them and move on with real operations on the BS !

Bumping Dave’s post that says Materials Car as advertised ?

Do/did the Amtrak molds belong to LGB, or did they belong to LGBoA, and who has them now?

We “heard” that LGB got all their molds out of China some time ago. But I don’t know what you can trust until you see proof.

And I agree, Marklin could probably give a “s**t” about the US market, but how much better was LGB? We take what scraps we can get.

Greg

Marklin did bring back the Olomana, the Chloe, and the Mikado from LGB. But they were reworks of older models, previously released by LGB. So I agree with what has been said.

But I thought I read somewhere that LGBoA had released the Amtrak stuff, and that LGBoA wasn’t actually LGB proper. Kind of a stepchild of LGB. That is why I asked about those molds. If Kader has them, and they are dabbling in the defunct Aristocraft line, then maybe… Or am I way off base?

way off I think, don’t think Kader ever made the LGB stuff, and LGBoA was stepchild, but still did stuff under LGB, and was not big enough to do things on their own, like make new locos from different supplier.

Could be wrong about Kader, but doubt LGB/Marklin would let anyone else make their stuff under different retail name, and again, report is all molds were retrieved from China.
