Building and Bashing Amtrak Equipment

You guys can mock Amtrak/trash all you wish, however though it looks straight forward it is harder to model than most think! I will tell you it has been quite a learning experience building Amtrash and the political aspect of it just blows me away at times. But I have a passion for it as this is what I want to MODEL. I’m quite happy with the 10’ rule as scale and gauge matter not to me!

Dave don’t let the AmBashers get to ya, ya done do good work even if you are loosing more fingers then gaining cars

David, I hope you know that my interruptions aren’t meant as any disrespect to your builds. After my attempting to scratch build, I have the deepest respect for your work and I’m a big fan of what you’ve built. I thought most posts here, were made in humor. Sometimes it’s hard to tell intent behind the posts.
I get angry with certain posters that are always bashing me and I have lost my patience with them. I tried to move on and ignore them. I hope you continue to push for this modern equipment that no one offers and needs to be modeled in G scale. You are carving a new path were others have bailed. I just read a post on an O gauge site where he said that he’d give his soul to get the detail parts that are available in HO gauge… imagine if they were available in G!
It’s cool to see how each builder here captures each detail. There’s a lot to learn from each. I figured that I have handled a lot of materials in my life. I should be able to attempt a build like you guys have shown. So I became a builder too. It wasn’t my idea. I’m just following…
On the lighter side, again you post a funny arsed picture of what coffee means to us older guys!!

Scale must matter a bit, David - your models look right.

Well OK maybe a little but I don’t know what scale it is though?

I just renewed my permit to carry concealed feelings not long ago and I’m not about to have it revoked. Like Marks comment which I thought was funny even if the router did bite my fingers it was my stupidity that allowed it to happen!

You are such a rooster…

Ok so in this picture there is a silver shininy button like object, is this used to secure the coupler assembly or is this thing temporary?

Heck if that is your 10 ft rule then I can only imagine what your 1 ft rule for detailing would be. I appreciate how you come up with these detail parts using common materials all of us have on our workbenches. I can never see the potential that you do.

I feel for you fingers, I was cutting a piece of wood the other day, my fingers were so cold that I didn’t feel the blade start to hit my finger/fingernail, luckily I saw the blood and moved my finger before it became worse then a small cut

It’s temporary …it’s a magnet and the other one is inside the car. It;s holding the step in place. I use magnets for mock ups when I can and they work great.

Why?

I didn’t think I could do some of the things I did either until I tried

I don’t post on this thread often, but you know I’m watching every step. This latest car is really looking good. Thanks for sharing your build.

Thank you John and others for your positive comments so far. This build has been a real challenge and doing multiples at the same time even more of a challenge (for those that know me it’s the staying focused part) but once again as with the rest of my builds I’m learning new techniques and materials. It’s been really fun figuring out how to make some of the stuff on the router table and even neater when you can mill off a whole run with plenty of material to screw up!

Hopefully I will have some fresh pictures to share soon.

OMG say it isn’t so, you got page 14 of Roosters build, you better watch out you might get your eyes pecked out now, lol

Mark

Matt is my Amtrash counselor so I think it’s pretty cool!

Hollywood got me beat hands down with that BL-2 on page 14. I wanna make a BL-2/69GFY-8 (with the optional extra rear sanding hatches) once he kicks the bucket and has it willed it to me. Makes me wanna start a PC30CH
