Hehe…The J&B is a prosperous NG RR. (Perhaps the one and only). We take good care of our equipment.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
Prosperous, perhaps, but just not smart enough to have the right materials on hand…
So, not enough laser cut wood siding…but I did have some styrene. I decide to use that for the ends. I glue the styrene to some foamed PVC and glue that assembly in place.
Add a roof underlayer…3mm foamed pvc…to be covered by wood strips later…
I take it you managed to get it flattened out. …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Yes, apparently the secret is to have enough patience to let the glue dry. And, of course, have enough clamps to hold it in place as the glue dries.
Who knew?(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
I’m thinking the windows are for the 17th anniversary boxcar as well

Actually, I am planning to replace the windows in Smith Pond Mill; the years have not been kind.
Cut some wood strips to thickness; just not as good as the professionals do it. But, I don’t think it will matter that much. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)
Anyway, got the strips and some trim glued in place; starting to look more like a boxcar.
More like a coffin.

Hehe…I guess it does. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
Maybe I’ll add some doors and other stuff…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
I thought it was a fish tank for fish that don’t like light… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
That’s why it needs the windows !
Succumbing to all this pressure, I’ve added some more details… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
Everything is pinned or bolted in place. I hate to repair stuff that falls off. Doors are just some more of the scribed styrene siding that I used for the end pieces. Door hardware is made from brass strips. Ladders from brass rod bent in a home made jig.
Time for the paint shop, I’m thinking…
Looking good, Bruce… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Yea it looks good.
This brings to mind a question I have pondered. On the real wood boxcars, how thick were the doors?

those old ones, that i have seen here have doors from 1" to 1.5" thick.
Thanks Korm.
Yer gittin’ thar, BC!

Just letting the paint dry, before putting on decals. Once I give the car a matte finish, I’ll go ahead and glue the roof walks in place.
I’ve also painted the trucks using NeoLube. It covers very nicely with no brush strokes.
I had save the couple lift bars but forgot to put them in place. Now I’m thinking I really don’t need them. Sure, if I was entering a contest or something, but I’m just going to be running it on my layout and don’t really use them.
Heh. Operations Quality and all that…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
Looks great Bruce. I find the lift bars that come on Accucraft are to flimsy for my clumsy fingers, and the brass rod ones I make myself look too heavy, so lots of my cars don’t have them either. I rarely use them.
