Building a 1:20 Mikado

So…when’s the first operating session?..

What a fantastic look on your turntable. Is it functional yet or a static model? What type of control and sound does/will it have?

Somewhat functional once I figure out the front pilot truck. It’s got RCS and Phoenix P5 sound.

Hi Bruce.

May I reiterate my earlier comments. What a great looking model.

…and thanks for choosing RCS.

30,000 Viewers can’t be wrong  A great looking loco.

HEY GUYS…IT IS NOT FINISHED…

Bruce just told us on the chat, that his new “Parlour Car”, will be steam heated…that means that he has to add a steam line from the manifold on the boiler of the loco, to the tender, and a steam line on the tender to it’s rear end, where there has to be a connection to the passenger cars. All his passenger cars will require steam lines and the appropriate connections…
I figure this threadcan be expanded by at least 4 more pages…of great modelling art…I look forward to the plumbing, and development of good looking steam line connections…again, Bruce should be able to use those rare earth magnets, but the steam line connections are not rubber hoses…

dream on Fred

Live steam heated model passenger cars. Great idea Bruce will the full consist be done by ECLSTS

Steam heat just means I don’t put a stove inside…

Wait till Andre see’s this!!!
HA…page 39!

…it won’t be up to your standards without steam lines…

Without steam lines on the cars and the loco, would be like a GG1 without overhead wires…NAKED…

Or like a bridge without guardrails…

Or like a garden without a railway…

Juist how long is this going to continue? Fer pity’s sake…its built already. All this thread milking about some silly friggin’ steam lines to heat a car he hasn’t even finished yet?

GOOD GRIEF!

Andre’, my fine son;

You would appreciate the steam lines if you were riding in the passenger cars at -20F.....the rest rooms tended to freeze up if the steam heat wasn't working.....

All kidding aside; the steam lines on the tenders, or/and passenger equipment do show predominately, on the real equipment. Of course some people are not old enough to remember steam locos in service on passenger trains, let alone steam heated rolling stock.

In HO scale, Rapido trains has produced a “Steam Generator car”, which was used after the Diesels took over…most Diesels didn’t have steam generators, so the heater cars were used to heat the passenger equipment. The model even has a “Smoke” unit that produces what appears like steam…Aristo should produce one of these for their earlier passenger equipment.

In any case; steam lines on Bruces’ loco and tender, would be an added touch that few LS modellers even think of. It would add that additional clutter found on rear of steam locos used in passenger service. Bruce has produced what I think we all can say is a fine work of art, and adding just a few more details, brought on by his determination to heat the passenger equipment with steam heat, is not a bad idea, enhancing his loco juust that one step further. His passenger cars will look good too with steam lines…
I have never seen any LS modeller add steam lines to their passenger equipment…why can’t Bruce be the first.
In our LS, details like steam lines do show clearly…

Except that this is probably gpoing to be a freight locomotive not slated to tote passenger cars

Bruce, your attention to detail and craftsmanship is awesome and inspiring!

So, I seen this thread and decided to bump it.

It is a long read but has excellent info in it.

So where is #7 now?
