Bronze shims would be more prototypical.
Bruce,
I used faucet repair washers on the Bachman K-27 when I first got it. I got the tip from Dave Goodson.
Cut a V in it to slip over the axle.
Since then I have replaced them with Derlin that I made.
BTW it’s looking good.
Rodney
I used small slices of styrene tubing on my B’mann 2-6-0; just slit the tube, snapped it over the axle between the gearbox and the frame, and its been there ever since.

Meanwhile, work on the cab continues. I’ve got all of the rivets in place on the walls and trimmed out the windows. I still have one more door to make.
Kinda makes ya wonder how ya got anything done before ya retired, don’t it?
Nice work, Bruce.
Coming together nicely Bruce
Wonderful looking cab…
You guys are too much!
Which die did ya use on the riveter fer that?
I am SO getting myself one of those rivet presses. Just need to wait for Caboose to have a sale.

I cant wait to see the finished product. Looks awsome so far
real nice Bruce that micro mark rivter works great

Thanks guys. I’ll tell you, that riveter is cool!
Ken - I thought I was supposed to have lots of free time when I retired. Where is it?
How thick are the walls of the cab?

It’s called a “Honey-Do” list…that paper posted on the fridge…
I get “Post-It” notes all over the kitchen cabinets…little yellow things with “messages” on them…I think they grow there.

She’s too hard on you Ken!
Stop wasting post it’s and get a magnetic eraseable white board for the fridge!
It’s starting to shape up a bit. I put the inner layer of the roof on today. I used some .040" strips to form it. It still needs sanding a bit, then it will be covered with some .020" sheet that will be embossed with some rivets.
On an unrelated note, I’m trying a new glue - Tamiya extra thin cement. Up to now I’ve used various ones: MicroMark Same Stuff, Ambroid, or Plastruct. The problem is that they all have humongous brushes. Here’s a shot of the tiny Tamiya brush for comparison.
Engine is looking great…
Beautiful Bruce just beautiful.
On the Tamiya glue I’ve been using an old 5/0 brush for my gluing, but that looks even tighter. Wonder if Tamiya sells the bush separate?
Bruce,
That looks freakin’ awesome!!
Will it be ready for Marty’s?
