Buddy L Trains

I’m a new member here.
I started collecting Buddy L trains a couple years ago. I have them set up in my basement.(Only outside when it’s nice out.) I started building buildings for them in 2006. I just thought I’d post a link to another forum I’m currently on. It’s a military modeler’s forum, and since I started with my trains I haven’t wanted to do anything else for a long while. Buddy L is real close to 1/18th scale, so that’s what got me started collecting Buddy L and modeling in that scale. The link below has 4 full pages of my work so far. I welcome any questions or comments.
Thanks, Kevin.

Welcome to the site, glad you stopped by.

A handful of our members are military modelers, too. Maybe they’ll chime in.

Kevin,
while I like to see other modeller’s work, I do not like a reference link to a host that downloads advertising popups for any product, particularly online gaming sites. Your link reference should make note that viewers will be exposed to such material and enter at your own risk. I will now run some software to clean up my computer.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, that’s funny… I didn’t get any pop ups…oh and BTW Welcome!!

I didn’t get any pop-ups either or stuff like that from that site.

Welcome.
Is that the old 'Buddy L stuff from years ago?

jb

Thats REAL Buddy L, Gauge 3 from the 1920’s, not the stuff being sold today as Buddy L, or Keystone, or Heritage… I saw a full catalog collection on display at the Cal St RR Museum, there are very few thing I would consider to kill for, these are on that list…

Kevin, welcome aboard. We’re a rather eccentric lot but you will find us harmless…most of the time…

Tim, I got no pop-ups from that site either. I’m using Firefox. I also checked it with IE6 and got no pop-ups. Must be something not set right with your browser…or you have a trojan/spyware that’s scanning sites you visit and giving you the pop-ups.

Warren,
I use IE6 with XP. I do not have popups and regularly scan for viruses, trojans and malware. When I opened this site there was no problem. when I went to close the site, then I received the online gaming popup. As I do not usuallly receive popups, I must conclude that the hosting website utilises popups. No popups prior to entering site and then popup when attempting to exit the site, then I must conclude that the popup originated at the host site.

There was an attempted pop-up but my software notified me, blocked it and I exited right away. Nick Jr

No pop ups here either…as one of the Military Modelers, welcome aboard…

Those old Buddy L trains are beautiful. I love the well used look with a little bit of real rust. So what is Gauge 3, is that larger than 45mm ?

Jon

Yes, Jon, considerable bigger, something like 3.25 between the rails I think…

Had an article many moons ago in GR about a guy who mounted auto starters in his Buddy L engines and had them running in his back yard. Track was powered by car batteries…

As a furriner, I know nothing about Buddy L, but I do know about Gauge 3.

Gauge 3 as practiced here in UK conforms to the original Marklin/Greenley track gauge of 2.5 inches, or 64.45mm, to a linear scale of 1/22.6, making it eminently useable with 45mm track in meter gauge, that is to say, much of LGB’s European rolling stock.

That’s why a few over here, like my good friend Trevor, former secretary of the UK Gauge 3 Society, have dual gauge track with Gauge 3 and 45mm.

I was hopin someone who was more familiar with Gauge 3 would step up. Thanx Terry, I was just guessing about the size............

Thanks everyone.
I don’t get pop-ups either. (Sorry Tim.)
The locomotive was made between 1926 and 1931. It’s 9.25" tall, 6" wide, and along with the tender, is 44" long. The track is 3.25" between the rails. The flatcars are reproductions made in 1990 by “T-Reproductions”. I also have a boxcar, coalcar, gondola, and caboose. I’m still looking for a tanker and cattle car.

I bleeve this is what used to ge called 'Standard Gauge' by you American guys.

Not seen anyplace else on the planet as far as I know.

There is one exhibitor here in UK who takes his layout to numerous shows - I’ll talk to him next time I go to one.

TAC
American “Standard Gauge” is 2 1/8", Buddy L is 3 1/4" gauge and is signicantly bigger.

They are literally as big as 3-1/2" gauge ride on trains.

I just posted another update to the link on page #1.
It’s a grain elevator, it’s on page #5 on the link.
Thanks, Kevin.
