Just on your way out?
I wonder what the best way is to note that on TrainOps switchlist?

Looking good,Bruce.
Re: TrainOps, I’d say make it an order in the town, like I have for the ferry, or “No locomotives under the colliery”.
I’m wondrin the same thing. “Must Stop at all water tanks” …??
I’d make up a separate rule sheet.
Yard speed limits
Switching speed limits
Must stop at all water and coaling towers
etc, etc…
You could just go diesel and sell the structure?
Nice!
That looks great out on the layout. You prob said it somewhere but What color is it painted? I really like that.
Thanks. I don’t remember the exact shade of red - I got one of those 8 ounce samples from Home Depot - custom mixed. It’s a thin coat, with a wash of India Ink and alcohol applied after it dried a few days.
The weather has been pretty good of late, dry most days and even some sunshine to cheer the cockles of the heart.
I decided to run a coal drag today: it had to be roundy roundy as I cannot find much justification for switching seven cars of coal. I also wanted to saw up more wood to keep the home fires burning and electric saws and switching are not really good companions.
Seeing the coal hoppers reminded me of my aborted attempt to build the coaling stage so expertly made by Bruce. This is a really great model to build and I wonder how many other modelers have built one as well as Bruce?
The site where my model should have gone: had I not made two fundamental mistakes when building it, is now being occupied by my chocolate facility loading docks. At present I cannot see a new location - too much garden, not enough railroad real estate, but this coal loading dock is still very much in mind. After my school house project of course.
PS: Oh, yes, the two mistakes: firstly not making the rear opening for incoming deliveries and secondly not having room for a straight track to enable the incoming deliveries to be unloaded. It did not look at all correct to have the track curved.
I"M THE MODELER WHO BUILT THE BUCKET COALING BUILDING FROM M.R. PLANS AND CHANGED THE BUILDING ORIGINATION . MY THEME WAS TO CREATE A OLD BUILDING BEING MODERNIZED WITH A AIR CYLINDER TO HOIST THE BUCKETS AND A AIR COMPRESSOR MOUNTED ON THE WALL. I INCLUDED NEW WIRING. I ENTERED IT IN THE NMRA RAIL RODEO 1979 HELD IN CALGARY ALBERTA CANADA NATIONAL STRUCTURES CONTEST AND GOT FIRST PLACE. IT WAS COPPIED . WITH NO MENTION OF MY WORK OTHER THAN GIVING ME A KIT BY FINE SCALE
Welcome to LSC, Ray.
No need to “shout”
Ralph
Welcome aboard Ray. Then congratulations are in order for your fine model and your award. Do you have any pics of it to share ?

I got some shovels from Bob and that finally allowed me to get this finished. A couple of characters from Scale Art Models, some more coal and dust and voila!(http://www.jbrr.com/Pics/Structures/Coaling/IMG_0009.JPG)
I will not put it outside until the spring…of course that means I have to find someplace to store it!
If this build isn’t worth a second look, I don’t know what is.
I keep wanting to start a post called “An LSC Gallery of Builds” but I don’t know how to do it without precipitating conflict or offending people. The talent here is so outstanding, I think we should have one place to go to enjoy and learn from the great work people do here, like this build by Bruce.
I’m imaging a permanent post with one or two pictures of finished builds and a link to building process.
edit: I feel like we could self-curate a Gallery. Heck, the Challenge builds alone are an artistic gold mine.
Wow…very humbling! I just glued some stuff together…
Is there anyway to get a copy of the plans from you. I really would love to tackle a 1:20.3 version
I think a lot of us would like to see the plans. Great build!
I’d like to post them, but the only thing I have available is an article from Model Railroader - I do not think that THAT is allowed to be posted.
