Bridgewerks DL1000 short

I have a DL 1000 for track power that appears to have a short in the throttle control. I have not run anything for about a month to 6 weeks, and it was fine at the last use.

Today I put the track cleaning car out in front of the Forney, and it ran about 6 feet and stopped. It had popped the GFI, and after looking for obvious shorts I tried again and it popped the chassis breaker at about 30% voltage. I removed the engine, tried again, same result, then disconnected the track, tried again with same result.

I brought the power supply in the house, cracked open the case inspected the innards for burns and found none. Retried the unit with the case open … same result. chassis breaked trips with full amp% displayed and only 30-40% voltage shown. Still no visible hot spots or shorts.

Any ideas for further tests, fixes, or known problems with this particular unit? I have done a quick search here an on one other site with no results. I’d like to run trains tomorrow wather permitting, but since this pops up it seems unlikely.

Thank in advance 'cause I know someone out there will have an ideaon the problem and a fix. then it’s whether or not I’m smart enough to fix it with my limited electronics skills.

Merry Christmas
Mark

Well … one addition… as I continued the inspection I found a ceramic resistor…marked 5W 68omega (i assume Ohm) that is bouncing around unattached. I cannot without additional disassembly see any broken leads or ??? so now I’m looking for the schematic for the placement of this damn thing as well.

Mark,

It’s not the nobody is reading your post, it’s just that we or I don’t have an immediate answer. If I was close to were you live, I’d rush over a power pack to get you through the Holidays. Sorry for the problems. I hope your Christmas can still be considered good and this is just a little bump in your life.

Umm ok, I dunno much about power packs, who makes the DL1000? Have you tried an email or a phone call to the company? I assume you have investigated the Waranty option already, so perhaps their tech support has somethng they could mail you? or perhaps a schematic on the company website?

Wasn’t that a butt ugly Alco dismal? Or am I thinking of a Krause-something-or-other)?
