Brick detailed sheets

I saw this ad in the NG&SLG for Monster Model & Laserworks

They have really nice looking bricksheets. And they make it in “G-Scale.” Not sure on the actual scale. The sheets look to be wood, so us guys would have to seal it. But, I dont see a problem with that.

Anyone used this product before?

Jake, glad you brought this up. I saw a review of those sheets in the latest Gazette and also saw an ad for 'em on page 19 of that magazine. Unfortunately, these sheets are in HO scale. But they’re quite large (4 x 12 inches), so that if you do model in HO, ya could almost build a whole wall without having to splice several sheets together, which is a b**** in large scale. BTW, Monster’s ad says they’re engraved in basswood from actual photos of brick walls (ya gotta love them lasers). Interestingly, the ad mentions N, HO, S, O, G and 1/35, which makes me hope that the company might turn out some walls for us large scalers.

Joe,

I went to thier website and you can order the brick sheets in “G- scale.” Wither that is 1:29, 1:24, 1:20…who knows.

Huh! Well that is something, Jake. Wonder what those will cost, given their size? Precision Plastic sheets, which are 15 x 15 inches are about $10 a pop, as I recall. And if you make something really big, one sheet won’t do ya.

Not to belabor the point, but I’m not sure basswood would work for outdoor models. But what would work is Precision Board, which can be machined just like wood and, because it is a synthetic of some sort, will hold up to the elements. Not to sound like I’m trying to sell something (don’t want to tee of one of our posters), but the Pipers, down around San Diego, sell that material in plain sheets or machined to look like brick and stuff. Not cheap, but it will live in the nastiest climate. They have a website and run ads in Garden Railways, but if I told ya the name of their outfit, a certain poster would accuse me of trying to sell you their product.

I understand your concern for the wood product. I have the same concern. I wondered if anyone has used these sheets and how it held up.

I bought a bunch of these brick sheets a couple weeks ago for my Goodson’s Batteries building.

They’re more accurate than the Precision Plastic sheets, thinner plastic, accurate side-to-side, better looking, and cheaper.

Jake,

I saw these first hand at the Amherst Railway Society Show back in Jan. the small scale sheets look great, but dug thru his box and found the “G” scale version. not as much relief as with the other scales and the bricks looked small to me. I do model in 1:20.3 but my guess is they were probally close to 1:32 scale. my .02 cents

Bummer! :frowning:

They are also $50 for three 4"x12" sheets :frowning:
And that is a “sale” price
