More boxcars rolled out of the shop today.
Nice cars Bob, but your sign painter needs some lesons in lettering freight cars.
Bob, nice looking cars, but isn’t the lettering just a lil over the top??? can’t you tone it down a bit???
I like them, and your simplistic approach to numbering. Very post common-carrier EBTish
Nice work Bob. Now you’ll have a little room in the car shops
Thanks guys. Yep, a bit of room in the shops. Two cabeese just rolled in there for completion.
I like 'em.
Decaling is a PITA for me.
I figure if the real ones had painted lettering, why can’t we do it as well.
I bought some little stencils, but still can’t get the edges of the lettering
sharp.
Try using an old fountain pen John. Far more control than a brush. Flat acrylic paint works well and is easily washed off the nib.
Alan Lott said:My local art supply store has a lot of "paint pens" in any color you can think of with fione/med/wide tips. I used one to add gold striping to a coach - just ran it along the ruler and it was done. Should be fairly easy to write with if you really want those kind of numbers.

P.S. Added 8/22. The same art store has a “bow pen”, which is similar in effect to a fountain pen, but specifically designed for writing/drawing using paint or other none-ink liquids.
This is assuming I have some artistic talent with a brush/pen, which I don’t. I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler.
Alan,
Great tip, never would have thunk it!!!
Edit - Calligraphy pens for letters and numbers. HMMMM
