Box Headlight

I need a box headlight in 1:24 from an Accucraft 4-4-0 or similar engine/manufacturer. Hartland’s plastic one is jut perfect but is in PLASTIC which will not work in live steam. If you know of one or have one please contact me.
Thanks

Gotta be 1:24 ???

I have a plantation 2 Cyl Shay (1:20) and was thinking of modernizing it a bit. I have several Ozark headlight castings but haven’t worked out how I’ll attach it. I want to install an LED for night running.

What would you take for your headlight Jon. Attaching a Ozark can be difficult. Can’t solder it. May have to use a small amount of JB weld. BTW I goofed. I should have said 1:22. My brain went south on the scale. A 1:20 DRG headlight is too large and Trackside’s is too small.

Hi Noel -

Based on what you said about attaching, I should probably experiment first before committing to it’s availability. It’s probably too big for you. I’ll measure it and report back here.

Noel -

The box lantern headlight on my Shay measures 25mm Wide by 50 mm High (including the final) by 17mm Deep. I think that’s too big for 1:22, but let me know and I’ll see how much trouble it would be to change it. First up I’ll need to buy a nut driver small enough to remove it

Jon,
Those are the dimensions I am looking for. What I am looking for is a 1:22 headlight for a 1:20 loco. DSP&P/CS had small box headlihgts. I know this is a 1:20 headligh but small. If you wish to part with it please let me know.
Thanks
Noel

OK - That splains it better  I’ll take a look and see what it will take to swap it out. Like I said, first step is to pick up a miniature set of nut drivers. If something else comes along sooner, feel free to jump on it.

Jon,
If the bolt or nut you have to remove is the smallest Accucraft makes then you need a 5/64ths nut driver. I think the Accucraft bolt is 1.2mm or there abouts. A 0-90 is the closest US bolt.

Thanks Noel. I’ve decided that I probably should hang on to all the original parts, even if I do end up modifying the headlight and stack. Sorry to be going back on my offer.

No problem Jon. The headlight is too small in a couple of dimensions anyhow. I managed to measure one out on a friends loco. Thanks
