Box Car complete

I got the bulk of my Bachmann Boxcar complete with the exception of adding a little more detail to the inside and outside. The car was repainted, weather a little and I redid the inside so I can run with the doors open. I wanted to keep it simple and rustic. Now I just need to redo my Bachmann logging caboose and the Big John (when it comes in)

Very nice! Those older Bachmann cars always look a lot better repainted. I did mine with a “peeling paint” effect. I really need to get going on some decals, though. Yours look great!

Shawn;

You might notice the cast on door stop on the B’mann box car side casting. If you reposition the door guides and make the doors slide to the left, as is more of a standard; the door stop will look as if it is meant to be there.
Another thing you could change is the roof walk, which represents a very few real cars…the small end walks would look better if they followed the roofline rather than staying level.
You have done a nice job, and my suggestions are only to give you ideas for possible consideration when you “Attack” another B’mann box car.
You might also consider getting rid of those oversize and ugly couplers and applying a pair of Kadee 820, body mounts…this would finish off that car very nicely.

The way the doors slide was correct for a few lines, but then there would not have been a door stop where it is…

Hi Good looking photos Bruce

Thanks I wondered about that stop. I may end up changing the doors around. Should be an easy fix. Plus the doors wont interfere with my decals. I thought the roof walk was not right. I could not point it out but now that you mention it thats what it needs. Thanks for the ideas.

Nice work. You should have got Stan to work up a Tin Kitty logo for you.

Dear Shawn,

Again, nice work.

If you don’t already have a logo design in mind, how about a knees down view of the Oz’s “Tin Man” with a similarly constructed “Tin Kitty” rubbing up against his shins?
(Perhaps too complicated?)

Chessie silhouette with a funnel for a hat? (Too modern?)

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Brian thanks, thats next I only had enough money for the lettering and one sheet. After the holidays im going to see if we can come up with that logo. Thats what the right side is going to be for

Fred: i took your advise on the doors. I ended up changing them to the other side. What a difference. It even gave the box car some charecter. Were the old door hardware was I had to patch up the holes. It gave the boxcar a nice look. making it more realistic.

More logo thoughts.

I remember now where I’d seen a cat rubbing up against someone’s shins:

In the animated opening credits of the 1960’s TV sit-com “Bewitched”.

Sing along now…da-DUP, DA-dup, da-DUP-DUP-DUP-DA-dup…

Also, the capital letter “M” (for “mountain”) could be made out of 2 snow-capped peaks: //\

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Thanks: I did change the doors around on the box car and finished my logging caboose (I posted a few weeks ago). Im in the process of kitbashing my HLW mini caboose. I just got my HLW ore cars in, so I will be working on them as well. I still have to repaint the big john. I also want to make a tender for my porter and make another narrow gaugeboxcar (shorter but taller then my bachmann. I want to eventually make a workcaboose out of a newbrite caboose and a bachamn flat car. Oh and I want to attempt to start making my ownfigures. Other then that things have slowed down. I have been snowshoing and ice climbing a lot, I have a new park police officer I have been training plus My wife is getting induced tomorrow (its going to be a boy - another train fan) so the last few weeks have been busy. Hopefully in the next month I will have a few more projects done. I just wish my layout wolud thaw out so I can start my expansion.
