Boscovs Set but a no show for Sams

Boscovs has a set this year for $99…Bman stated that Sams would not offer one this year (wonder why?)

http://www.boscovs.com/StoreFrontWeb/Product.bos?itemNumber=45771

they are touting free shipping, but not for heavy items…price to ship to SC = $19.99…

Not a bad deal for someone looking for what appears to be an Annie!

there are 2 other Bmann sets avail as well.

cale

Saw a couple of last years Bachmann sets at the local Orchard HArdware Supply, same high price as last years.

I’m seeing a price of $159.99.
Where did you find a set for $99?
Ralph

Dang, it was there yesterday at $99…OUCH, they must read LSC?..that is a swift kick in the cods…sorry guys!

I guess 10-24 is the day to increase all holiday pricing!?

oh well, you could take that $100 over to ridgeroad and buy the side tank porter?

Cal: you were right, after you posted that link they had two Bachmann sets for 99 bucks. I cant beleive they uped it already. You were not seeing things because I saw it myself.

Well, Cale and Shawn, I join the ranks of the crazy, because I saw it there yesterday for $99.00 too. Was gonna order one, too, but was overcome by ADD.

I wasa actually going to order one as well until I thought what if my wife finds out and what shewould do to me. That took care of the urge. Now with the higher price its a no brainer.

Shawn,

You’re not supposed to charge it on her card!

Back in my previous life I’ve always had to chuckle when hearing the stories about how to smuggle small scale stuff into the house. Preferred method, plain brown paperbag, apparently similar to what one would get at the liquor store or the adult entertainment shop.
Sure wonder what the wives were thinking.

I have been asked if the promotion (such as Christmas versions) model of the “G” 4-6-0, is actually the Anniversary model – the last version with the improved motor assembly and drive gear.

Is it accurate to say that there are NO other versions of this loco being made by Bachmann other than the above?

Considering an “annie” version of the loco alone - per Trainworld - is in the $130+ range, this offer as posted at $159.00 at the store, still gives some cars, track, and a power pack. IF it is the last reliable version, it’s still an affordable choice.

Thanks,
Wendell

Wendell:

I’m certain there are no 4-6-0 versions other than the Gen. 5 chassis being manufactured. There have been two version of this chassis: One with plastic side rods and one with metal side rods. The so-called Anniversary version is the one with the metal side rods. I’m not certain if both versions of the Gen. 5 chassis are still manufactured, or all new production has the metal side rods.

The more basic question is whether the Boscov’s set is current manufacture, or is possibly left over from some previous year. The reason I question this is due to the exchange on the Bachmann board: http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,6951.0.html

Note that in direct response to the question “Will there be any other special run Sets this year?? Like for Boscov’s, Costco, Orchard Supply Hardware or the like.” The Bachmann replies “None that I know of…”

When I couple that thread with the Boscov offering, I am led to believe that it might be ‘new, old stock.’ Without someone reporting on what is actually in the box, it’s impossible to tell for certain.

As to pricing, I just looked at one on-line train vendor and came up with Bachmann sets starting at $144. Several available at $168 and $174, with the most expensive being $192. That’s only one vendor, without any comparison shopping. Why be limited to a single choice when there is a wide selection available for prices that are very close?

Happy Ring,

Jerry

Jerry -
Sharp thinking – “old stock” may be the answer. With a product that has been continued in production for at least ten years maintaining such a similar outward appearance, for many “old” is still “new.”
Wendell

Old stock may be the reason for the price jump. The lower price may have been the closeout price after last Christmas. Now that Christmas is rolling around again, they may have restored the original price.
Ralph

The PIC looks like the SAME 2000 set I have…nice enough, but NOT an Annie. I’m probably going to sell the loco tender & boose on mine so I have $$ for bills.

Ha! Now the price is $199. Talk about supply and demand. Better get yours quick before it hits $249.

Too late, it says “no longer available”… Our LHS has one, though. Thing STILL looks identical to my 2000 one to me.

Dear All,

I have 2006 Sam’s Annie & Trolly sets for sale, complete sets or break-up. (Expand your consist !)

New, unused, sealed in boxes.

I will list them on Ebay only as break-ups within the next few weeks.

I also have one set of matching add-ons (baggage and combine), new, never run, box opened for inspection.

E-mail me with any questions. joebarbATwwtDOTnet. Put “LSC” at the beginning of the subject line
