Large Scale Central

Boring!

It is not cabin fever season is it? Every time of late an interesting topic is CLOSED. Even during the height of the EPL saga when excreta was flying in all directions and hitting the fan (or is that ventilator), I cannot recall threads being closed to discussion. Of cause warnings were issued reminding people to be civil to each other.

Now we have really really interesting topics like, let us think of a name for our railroad or other crap. I have limited my exposure to this site over the past year or so for one main reason. it is getting tired. Gone are the interesting days when one could read topic threads for hours on all manner of topics and build threads. Thank God there are still a few of the older members with a thinking man’s brain still around (for the time being at least) and not the just the manufacturer insider trolls who were always around and still infiltrate forums to report back to their masters.

Sorry Tim but due to a temporal anomaly we’ve time warped back to 2006…well it sure feels like it.

BTW during the EPL crash I recall just about every thread that no matter how civil got locked or deleted due to the efforts of those who didnt want any form of discussion, stifled them by creating conflicts regardless of how civil the discussion was. I am now onceset again very concerned the same pattern is being repeated now.

I will add the locking happened on MLS LSC GR and GSM, it wasn’t isolated to any one site.

Great, door is that way. =>

Ive run the site the same way for 13 years. Seems to be going just fine despite your disapproval.

It’s alright, Tim. Notice none of us who comment actually start the threads.
What surprises the carp (sp) out of me is that the SoapSuds site, run by Sprocket, hasn’t locked the thread there.
Just wait…someone else who hasn’t been following the events will start a new thread.

I just have to say, Nicky does Luv all of you Long Time…

And don’t let it hit ya in the A$$…

Newbie alert, but just had to say something.

I’ve learned many things during this discussion, things which pertain to my understanding of the industry and how my expectations should be informed as a model railroader.

For example, I didn’t know what EPL was. Didn’t know what some of the other players were. Didn’t know what some of the hot buttons were, and maybe will become.

So I know I’m speaking out of turn, but I’ve appreciated this discussion, even when things have gotten heated, because emotions sometimes point out where the sore points really lay for those having a lot more experience than I do.

So thanks Bob for this site, and everyone else for contributing to my ongoing education.

This post reads like it is NOT going to end well.
Personally I like this site over any of the other largescale sites. The people are friendly, informative and a beginner can ask a question and not get attacked and scared out of the hobby.
As my skills have grown I find myself inbetween the experts and the beginners so I still have questions but feel qualified to answer some too. Yes there are threads that I don’t want to read so I don’t.
I agree some threads do get rolling in the wrong direction so Bob locks them. It is his site. In the end if you don’t like what is being written don’t read it and certainly don’t add to it.
As a more or less public forum there will be good bits as well as bad, interesting and boring but what one guy finds boring another is very excited to read and learn from.
I like this site.
Thanks Bob

I don’t have any problem with The Great One locking threads. It is hios site.
I try not to ever start these threads, but sometimes…
Rest assured the issue contained in that thread will pop up again.
How many EPL threads total did we have?
I think Bob had to get a new shipment of padlocks after that one.
Hope he didn’t get them from New Jersey, as they are probably out of stock…oh, sheeet, did I say that?

Sorry to rain on the parade, but … it’s never boring around here!

Why? Because it takes all kinds and they’re all here!

As I note on a previous thread: We are the “Consumer Reports” of the hobby.

Sure, people get defensive, distracted, thread changing, oblivious to the content, etc., Meanwhile, there is trusted data – how reader/investigators get it can be a mystery – but it is trusted.

So Cliffy, this site has saved garden RRs lots of money by giving support to those manufacturers and retailers that are honest, upfront, and care about the hobby and us as large scale promoters. When a trusted company folds shop there’s condolences and statements of support abundant on this site. Ridge Road again comes to mind.
As long as the data is trusted we have a needed place in discussing the ethics of our industry – and applauding those who honor it.
Don’t lose it.
Wendell

“This post reads like it is NOT going to end well.”

And some will just have to see, just how far they can go before it gets locked.

I don’t know about you guys but I had fun playing with my trains the last 3 days. What did I miss

How about a Pic. This one for those that really feel the need to supper/supper detail their engines.

What they all said!

Yeah, seems that it’s a bit different now. Is it that “we” loved LGB less or Aristo more?

Cant we just all play with our trains and not worry about all that sheet???

Besides who gives a rat’s ass anyways…not me for sure.

Sorry Bob for non family language but I want this web site to back the way it used to be.

A bunch of old pharts and young one sharing their modeling in Large Scale with each other.

Dave, great pic! I was at the Colo RR museum on Wednesday, and looking at all the “modern” oil and grease lines they’ve got installed on ex-Georgetown Loop #40. Strange to see braided stainless steel hose snaked all around the frame of a locomotive. Not something I foresee myself modeling anytime soon, but definitely glad it’s there when the loco’s running. (As is crew, I’d imagine.)

Later,

K
