Boone in progress

All these great figures have inspired me to try sculpting a brakeman. In this case from a picture of Boone Morrison while on Kauai. This is FIMO over a wire armature. What kind of paint should I try? Primer?

Neil This pic is from my phone so please don’t be to hard on me!

Neat! What’s FIMO? Is that anything like Sculpy?

Fimo is the same as sculpy, but a little firmer. Premo is the same, but a little softer than Fimo. Of the 3, I like Premo in dark blue best.

For painting, I use acrylic craft paints.

Thanks Tom. I’ve been scared to try the hands but he was wearing gloves in the photo so …

FIMO - Sculpy - all the same pretty much. Some can be worked or you can add filler that is soft to give it some workability but I find that all of them are pretty fragile for our scale. Maybe Richard has something different?

I’ve tried wax which comes in different hardnesses as well (for jewelry making) but haven’t had as much luck.

Great start Nell, can you show us a pic of the prototype?

Here is my “prototype”. Check out his gloves - that should give me some leeway on the hands. Neil

Sorry! didn’t know that would still be soooo big!

Oh my, that is great!!!

Neil, All you have to do is check the size of the pic before you upload it. Yours is 1296 x 1936 pixels This one is 268 x 400

hehe

I kindof wondered about the pose, but I see you’ve captured him quite faithfully!

I think you need that Whitcomb switcher too  What a great little loco - and Boone is a great subject for your figure. Nice !!!
