Atlas HO/N track nails at trainworld $5 for a pack of 500 https://www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/atlas/atlas-2540-track-nails-2oz-unit/

When do we see the video of that Rotary working … ?

Oh … is it done yet ?

rivets …

Hmm,

Never thought of using the HO nails. I might have to get some and see how I like them over the sewing pins.

When you need a bolder rivet, bird shot can be glued into the hole …

I have used bird shot before and it looks great but like nails, pins and plastic rivets it requires individual hole or dimples which is quite time consuming, I currently have ordered and received rivet sheets from MIRCE and the are very easy to install, several at a time, the only down side to them is that they are not raised but seem to show up well through paint. As soon as I try some I will post back on the subject, mean while you can take a look at them on youtube and see what you think. Believe there were some raised one sold by WOW planes but they are no longer in business and I was unable to locate where their line went. Her is the youtube video of Mirce ones

Archer Decals have “surface details” which are resin on decal film. Pretty easy to apply a straight row.

Pete, I’ve tried the archer ones and they look good but I shake a little and found it hard to place properly and had a lot of trouble with the sheet tearing, but was probably me, also even though I ordered the largest ones they seemed a little small even though to scale. Sure would like to know where the WOW planes ones went. Bill

Thanks for the link Boomer. FWIW, those look a lot like the #20 brass escutcheon pins I bought for other other uses. I just measured one, and it has a dia head of /078, and shank dia of .035.

Whatever the product, you’ve inspired me to try it myself!

You have to watch, because those nails come from different suppliers (to Atlas) and so they come with different sized heads. The smaller size works great in our scales, but the larger sized ones are at least as big as the molded on rivets on the Bachmann 10 wheeler if not a tad larger. I am using sequin pins on a project I have been fussing with off and on. And yea, drilling out the holes for them is rather time consuming.

Alan at G.A.L. uses Tichy rivets.

Oops Looks like I missed a couple of updates. Here is the Rotary unit ready for paint. The lettering is being done with vinyl letters as a mask. I do not want the back ground color to be to stark and bright so I am using oyster white. A craft paint (which I hate) but it is the only way to get that pigment. The unit will be oxide red with white lettering.

And I have also made progress on building the tender.

You can tell from this last pic a crew has been selected and work begun on them as well.

Pilot: Ben Hancock

Engineer: Dave Taylor

Fireman 1: Devon Sinsley - already laying down on the job.

Fireman 2: John Caughey

Normal disclaimer applies as always. I am not a professional artist (I did get a double smiley face for my finger painting in 2nd grade though) so there is more artistic license than skill in my sculpts. But no worries , no LSC members were harmed in the making of this project…yet.

Are you going with the new Devon with the Bob Ross wig or the Tin hatted one ?

Hehehhee I got pics of all four Sean. Maybe a year or so out of date but they will work. You guys will not believe what John looks like without his glasses and hat!

Wow, journals with hinged covers? Did you make those?

Awesome work, Boomer. The car body is looking great.

I’m proud to be a crew member on such a fine model, truly a dream job come true!

I wish I was that good. Those are in fact the trucks from the Spectrum boxcar I used for the rotary body.

It is cool that they open but they are also easily broken off and lost. I glue mine down and oil from the rear of the journal.

Me too. I look forward to finding a nice comfy spot in a corner and sleep while everyone else works.

Since they’ve got me on steroids right now, that’s a; Can Do, younger buddy!
