I’m re-locating my book collection to a new glass doored case and started to remove the dust jackets.
I think they look better without them. The bindings are not so loud with gold or silver lettering.
I do not plan to sell these books, so I’m wondering what you think about tossing the jackets like I do red boxes.
I could prolly save the jackets in a box for the next owner, but I’d be long gone and could care less.
What do you all think?
Original dust jackets add an incredible amount of value when the book is sold. Even if you dont care about it, your estate sale will.
Id unfold them, and stick them flat some place safe.
JB,
Keep the dust jackets.
Whoever gets the books when you’re gone, will appreciate it.
A first edition of “Gone with the Wind” signed by the author was worth around $100,000.00 less, without the dust jacket.
Ralph
Yeah…keep the jackets…ain’t the same as smashing a redbox and chuckin it in the fire
I’ll send U all of my dust jackets.
I agree with removing the dust jackets. Looks a lot better and really saves a lot of bookshelf space (you’d really be surprised) if you have a large collection. I do save the dust jackets however. They’re all boxed and stored in the loft in my shop.
Is this like keeping the boxes for your freight cars?
