Boober caboose refurbishment

Although this bobber looks in a good shape - previous railroad obviously took pride in it - the O&NF management felt that it needed to be in other colours.

The yellow, being a well noticed colour will stay, but the aluminium will be painted a duck egg blue with medium green detail. A new railroad herald will be applied.

Just be glad that the loco cholos didn’t get hold of it. They turned our bobber into a “low rider.” In fact, they turned the whole train into a “Low Rider” (with animation). Of course living in Santa Ana, with the second largest Latino population next to Mexico City, this is a HUGH HIT with visitors.

(Yes Greg, I also lay claim to the first “Low Rider” train.)

Most of my passenger stuff is low riders with 36" wheels, sinclair antennas and some even have spoilers/wings.

I look forward to your choice of colors Alan !

This low?

Huh. How low can you get?

I’m still stuck on the original title … I figured maybe it was a caboose with matching sand domes or something …

During the hour or so after I awake and finally putting my feet out of the bed I usually have a thoughtful period. One of these usually concerns my railroad.

I have remembered that a car, which after removal of its body will give me a flat bed, could be an ideal base to mount this bobber. This gives me an opportunity to make it into a long caboose rather than a bobber.

Maybe the thread should now be entitled re-build rather than refurbish!

Alan, I think that would be a good idea. I turned my only Aristo bobber into a lamp, because the darn thing wouldn’t stay on the tracks.

Matthew,

I’m waiting for picks of the boobs as well.

I had an old Bachmann RGS bobber (with cupola) that caused enough derailments on the SCRY Mk. I that I put a brick in it and submerged it in the fish tank for a year or two. I had a photo of this, but I haven’t been able to find it to include here.

Interestingly, afterwards it was removed, hosed off, and given to someone who ran it on a big hauler set for some time …

Not sure if that’s a positive or negative review, but the fish did seem to enjoy it.

The only time the bobber ever derailed was when a Jack Russell dog got in it way. No damage done.

Now as far as the domes are concerned none are anticipated.

But maybe this is what they are thinking about? Emoticon

Don’t even look for “slammed caboose” as I did looking for a picture of my bobber.

The bobber has been in the paint shops. The flat bed ws not available at the present time so it has stayed with its short wheel base flat.

Initially the plan was to push the car through quickly with only a partial repaint, but the management said it did not look good that way and was not a credit to the line, so almost a full repaint has been done.

I am partial to yellow cabeese, but the blue looks really nice. Well done.

Nicely done Alan

Sharp looking, Alan!
