Bono, the lead signer of the band U2, is famous throughout the entertainment industry for being more than just a little self-righteous.

Glaswegians are noted for their ability to cut the pompous down to size.

Bono was playing a U2 concert in Glasgow recently, when he asked the audience for total quiet. Then in the silence, he started to slowly clap his hands, once every few seconds. Holding the audience in total silence, he said into the microphone, “Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies.”

A Glaswegian voice rang out from near the front of the crowd, piercing the silence…

“Well, f**king stop doing it then!”

Yeah that sounds like typical Scots sense of humor…

and yes, Bono is more than a little self-righteous, one of those “you should feel guilty for eating tofu when children are starving in Africa” types…yet he’s still more than just a little rich, and as far as I know hasn’t adopted any starving babies like Madonna or Jolie have yet. Did you hear in a concert he told the audience to pull out thier cell phone and call a # he gave them to hear a personal message from him regarding one of his social causes, they later found on their phone bill a whooping $40 fee for making that call! PS ever seen “Trainspotting” ? best examples of the Scots wit in that movie. My favorite line “I firmley beleive that the English are all wankers, but what about us?, we were conquered by wankers” I should point out that I’m a good chunk Scot ancestry also.
