Perhaps some ebay seller can give me some advice. I purchased an item on ebay paid for it via paypal. sellers provided a bogus paypal account on his listing. Thus the transaction was just to debit my credit card but not paid via paypal to seller. The seller has asked I send provide my credit card info via email outside of ebay payment or send a personal check to someone other than him. OR he will give me a bad non payment buyer, claiming he has had no problem with other buyers giving him credit card info. 1) how do I get Paypal to credit my credit card account. 2) I can find no way to report this to Ebay He has a number of listing for g scale equipment among hundreds of others in all catagories. How do I report this to stop others from getting burned?
Yes, you can report the seller to ebay. Then separately go to your Paypal account and submit a dispute for the charges. Even if you end up using the phone. Keep records of EVERYTHING.
And don’t use that seller again!
And contact your credit card company TONIGHT!
OOOOOOOOOOOO No, not another Ebay thread…

Seller is obviously avoiding PayPal charges. On every listing is a link ‘Report this listing’. Click on link or go to your ‘MyeBay’ page and on the item detail will be a link to ‘Report a dispute’. Seller is not going to argue with you as he will not want a dispute with eBay and PayPal which may cause him to de deregistered.
NEVER go around Paypal. You can find yourself on the receiving end of a poohstorm for violating the terms of your Ebay agreement. I have made buyers still use Paypal even when they are going to pick it up in person. Ebay has some very strict requirements nowadays regarding usage and payments.
As originator, it is not met to be a thread on pro or cons of ebay. I was asking for assistance to resolve a problem. This seller appears to know the system as when I try to dispute it. The page reverts to not paid page. I need to know how to get past this. He is not asking for an alternative payment through ebay accounts but to provide credit card info VIA EMAIL. this could be used for a whole host of sales or sold. A check to the 'the item Owner" is also a red flag.
Thomas,
I have called ebay/PayPal twice and have had very good experiences with both, especially PayPal. Give 'em a call, you may be surprised how much they can help!
NEVER
GO
AROUND
PAYPAL
Sorry but aside from going to pick it up and pay cash (and hope Rocko and Guido are not there to coax more money out of you) IMHO your best bet is to cancel the transaction.
Contact Ebay/Paypal and notify them the seller is attempting to skirt Paypal and that you are concerned about credit card theft if you pay his way. Ebay is very strict about preventing this kind of business.
I agree with all, contact paypal and ebay. Its easy to get them via phone. Never give CC info through e-mail. If paypal was an option then the seller cant backpedal. You bought product under the terms that you can use paypal.
What this sellers name?
This sure sounds fishy. I would cancel the buy and report the seller to Ebay. Ebay and Paypal might ask you for a CC or account number but I wouldn’t give it out to a seller.
Give Ebay a call and let them sort it out for you.
Do give us the name of the offender, so we can avoid him it might save some of us some grief.
When you got a bogus paypal account, it should have taken you precisely 5 nanoseconds to contact paypal and ebay.

I would never send a check to a third party, nor would I email any credit card info.
I am very cautious even when I start a call using a credit card and even then it is never the ATM card as you have no protection with the ATM card. Credit cards will give you a $50 limit on bogus charges, ATM cards will let your account get cleaned out and if you have overdraw protection, that can be maxed out also. This happened to a good friend of mine.

I wouldn’t say there is NO protection with a debit card. I tried to make a mail order purchase overseas with a debit card (probably not a good idea though) and the bank refused the debit. I had to call them and specifically allow the charge by exact amount before it would go through.
Still I agree that ATM or Debit cards shouldn’t be used with unknown vendors.

Actually you can use your ATM Debit card as a credit card, which will then offer the same protections as a regular credit card.
From Visa Debit FAQ http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/debit/visa_check_cards_faq.html
"Visa Debit card is a debit product, so why is there an option to press CREDIT at the terminal?
When you press CREDIT and sign for a purchase, your transaction is routed through the Visa network. This gives you all the security protections of a Visa transaction. But your Visa Debit card still works like a debit card, not a credit card: The purchase amount is deducted from your checking account and you don’t pay interest. See the complete list of security protections."
Here’s Dave Ramsey’s take on Debit cards and their “protection” of unauthorized charges like a credit card. http://www.daveramsey.com/article/the-basics-of-your-debit-card/lifeandmoney_creditcards
