Body mounted “G” Kadee’s 830’s
Any tips or know hows on mounting then to Aristo’ 40’ and 53’ boxcars?
Thanks
Sean
Height gage.
Dremel off that tab under the 40’s. (Dunno what’s under a 53.)
Depending upon your height, you may have to remove the screw that holds the boxcar to the bottom.
Or build a shim with a hole for the screw to recess in.
Center coupler and drill small pilot holes thru the coupler and thru the bottom of car.
Use a 3/4 #4 pan or round head sheet metal screw.
Depending on your radius of curves, you might have to snip off the outside mounting tabs of the coupler and use the two center mounting holes.
Tighten screws until the knuckle doesn’t move, then back off just enough to allow the knuckle to swing and move in and out freely.
You may have to bend up the “air line” a little to keep from dragging on turnouts.
On It!!
Sean,
On the OVGRS website, Paul Norton has posted articles on how to do the couplers on numerous freight cars, using body mounted 820-830 couplers

Good instructions and illustrations
Good article, thanks for the link. Do those Kadees come with the box, or must the box be ordered separately?
Ray Dunakin said:The 830 are the ones I use.... They come with box, coupler, springs, and screws.... If you go to the www.Kadee.com website amd click products and click G scale, then couplers, you can scroll down to the coupler number, and click the number and see the parts that come with it, as per the diagram...
