If you were a young reporter and made a grammatical error the city editor would take your typewritten story over to your desk and stand in front of you. He would stand in front of your desk, tear the story in two, and hand it to you. You didn’t make that error again!

This isn’t a job, it’s a hobby.
Have Fun!

Bad grammar and spelling is one of the main reasons a lot of youngsters sending in a CV do not obtain jobs requiring literacy these days… teaching or journalist )…although some slip through the net ( e.g see UK Daily Mail newspaper!! ) (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
There I was thinking it was only the current “vogue” for cost saving measures, that has resulted in a distinct lack of sub-editors, that the Daily Mail and other publications were so prone to spelling, punctuation and syntax errors these days. Then again, we have always had the Grauniad to lead the way in this deficiancy where even the compositors (remember them) could get it wrong. Like always, this thread turned into someone trying to advance their self perceived superiority over another poster by pointing out a mistake they made.
The whole point in trying to promote learning to use the English language correctly, is to promote better basic communication between human beings. It also is to promote respect for one’s self, and the fellow human beings you are trying to better communicate with.
It’s not meant to make it a competition on who is superior to, or smarter than someone else, or to be critical of someone else, unless someone thinks that constructive criticism is meant as an insult, which it shouldn’t be…
Granted…we all make spelling mistakes, and always will, but we should take pride in trying to make as few mistakes as possible.
Just slowly reading what you have written, before sending it, can help prevent spelling mistakes.
Yes, some people do have challenges, mental, and physical, that cause poor communicating skills, but to make the mistakes because you don’t care, and don’t try to learn, is basically showing that you have no respect for yourself, or the people you are addressing.

Well, yea. in order to reinforce the self perception of superiority, one has to demonstrate it. Then, once demonstrated, by pointing to another’s mistake, one feels the rush of being superior to one’s peers, and that enhances the feeling of superiority, for a short while. But one’s superiority has to be demonstrated yet again, because the rush is only temporary, and soon the insecure feeling of being just another one of the group creeps in. Its a vicious cycle, that only results in hurt feelings by those who have been the target of the demonstrations.
Whut one fails to realize is dat sumetimes we misspell, or use slang, for dramatic effect. And yet other times, its a simple, honest error.
I was accused of just being lazy and uncaring about our language because I never understood and learned some things about my native language. Iffn we wants to sit down in private and go over what happened to me in my formative years, that lead to such gaps in my learning, we can. But a public forum is not the place for such reminiscing. But I figure that the one in question has no desire for such an understanding, so we will never have that conversation.

Wow, Adam, you really need to go back to school! You made one mistake…you forgot to capitalize “Boy!” Ha ha ha!
(p.s…this is hilariously ironic…Bob will have to lock down a thread asking Bob how he’s doing!)

Hey, Max, I don’t know about Bob, but I like the Queen, it’s that jackass Charles, Prince of Wales, I can’t stand!
(I wanted to get this thread back on track before it gets locked.)
nobody is perfect. but as i don’t know nobody, i don’t care, if he’s perfect.
the thrifted part of this thread seems to be as necessary, as a rusty nail in the foot.
no locos (well, at least not in the english sense of “loco”), no busts pics, no … oh, forgot, what i was going to write.
Why should this thread be locked ?
No-one is bashing anyone, or intentionally insulting anyone. We are actually sharing, or at least trying to share thoughts on self respect; respect for others; improving communication; and trying to motivate the better care, use, and understanding of a part of our English language. This is all meant to help our wonderful group of Model Railroaders to better share our great hobby.>>>>>>>>AND hopefully find out “Where” our jovial FRIEND, BOB is, when he isn’t working darn hard to keep food and trains on his family table…
Fred Mills
My such lofty goals. I just want my trains to run correctly and to share the joy of that accomplishment with my fellow enthusiasts.
Sometimes I ‘spell down’ to throw off pesky thread cops. If’n all y’all stumble on that, oh well.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)
All this over a simple typo. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)
Yup!

I do not , don’t …recall where it was suggested that the thread be locked ? Perhaps a memory refreshment is in order?
Or perhaps we could go back to the original days of LSC when it mattered to only those that cared to share their, there, they’re model train pictures and experiences.
No one seemed to care about LSC 5yrs ago anyway?
Wonder why the other forums went belly up?
It’s all about faults in good Communication…one basic fault…NOT READING the notes that are published…a perfect example…
John suggested in brackets, that he wanted to get the thread “Back on track”, before the thread “Gets locked”…
Fred Mills
Yes Rooster, you needed to re-read the thread… note below, last line.

We don’t even know if it’s a typo. He could be warning us about the infamous and dangerous were Bob, (similar to a werewolf, but usually more benevolent) (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
