Bob, have you or I been hacked?

I’m getting popups for related searches, plus a lot of random words in various posts have been highlighted as hotlinks for various train related an no related items.

Also, whenever I click on “last post,” a tab with this url gets opened up.

Looks ok on my end.

I’m OK here as well. Take a look at MalwareBytes - it’s free and seems to do a good job of cleaning things up.

Folks, I’m going to offer some general advice to everyone on browser use.

First, never, NEVER EVER install one of those ‘browser toolbars’. They are almost 100% ad or spam related.

Second, install some browser plugins for security:

Install some adblock software. (white-list your favorite, non-corporate owned sites, block everything else).

Install Ghostery, and block just about everything it says to.

Third, disable Java (not javascript) in your browser.

Lastly, as a general rule, use some of your God given brains relative to what you click on and respond to. “We have detected your computer is slow, would you like us to fix it?” No, they havent, that’s just a scam to get you to install something. DO NOT EVER respond to something like that. With a few exceptions, software can’t magically just install itself on your computer, YOU have to do something to allow that. If you’re unsure about a message or popup window, DONT DO ANYTHING.

Another good program I’ve used with good success is CCcleaner. It’s free, and I noticed it did a much better job than two other spyware/ad-ware software combined that I had installed upon recommendation from the IT dept on the MSU campus. I uninstalled the two other ad-ware/spyware programs!

Ran CCleaner, found a hidden toolbar, zapped it, problem solved. Thanks, all.

Craig do you (or anyone) have an official page link for this? They use this at work but I have been wary to download anything linked from Wikipedia.
