Large Scale Central

BN 8th Sub (Issaquah Branch) Track Plan

reminds me of two girls.
one colected kitchen utensils in the garden, the other tools from the shed.

I’d recommend you install one of these.

Rooster reckons it improves all aspects of railway construction and guarantees results…

I’m still plugging along. 1 step forward. But we will continue to be quiet about the 3 or 4 or maybe 5 steps backwards. This is the last trestle I should need. Short little guy at 61’ and only 9’ tall.

Short ? 61 feet is long in my books and 9feet tall holy smackers …

looking good Craig, you may proceed.

Well obviously that’s in scale…

But compared to the other trestle that I made the was 285? scale feet long this one just barely covers one approach to that big one.

And if I ever model more of the branch there’s a huge trestle at 975’ and 102’ high or 33’ long actual by 3.5’ actual!

Last night I ordered another 7500 large spikes. That will hopefully cover that last 3 turnouts I need to build. That blew my hobby budget for the month so I’ll be waiting a while until I can order turnout points from Llagas.

In the meantime, I’ve got that unmentionable thing to cross off.

you answered my question before I could ask it. Was wondering where people buy their turnout components. I knew Llagas had them and always assumed that’s where I would get mine.

Lllagas sells both frogs and points. The frogs are a bit easier to make I think than the points. And being who I am, Llagas sells even numbered frogs and I want #9 frogs per the prototype. There’s one exception on the outside portion of the layout that’s a #6. Because I’m cheap, I just order 1 or 2 pieces of nickel silver rail for the frogs and have them cut into 6" chunks. Cheaper to ship even with the ‘cut’ fee. I’ve got a few #4 frogs and points I’m not using if you want to buy some DYI turnouts. lol

I’m sure I could build decent looking and functioning points, but the cost/benefit isn’t quite there. The Llagas ones slip under the head of the stock rail like the prototype. I absolutely hate the the look when folks file the stock rail to get the points to fit.

How much of a… never mind, good to see instant progress on the unexpected total rebuild

Well Pete,
Now that school is officially done for the summer (well in a few days I start teaching summer school in the mornings) I’m hoping to make more progress on the layout before we go camping in 4 weeks.

Finishing this last section is top priority so I can finish spreading the next batch of wood chips. Then once that’s done, I’ll fix the other thing that you saw on Facebook. :grimacing:

Thanks to Devon for buying my old frogs I should have some funds now to buy the last 3 sets of points so I can build those turnouts as well.

Some progress worthy of pictures! Today I finished building and adding the underlayment stuff for the final section to the fence. I would be saying I’m done to the fence but that whole thing with the Redmond section keeps biting me.

Anyways, sense I planted the trestle, I figured I should mock up distances between the trestle and the turnout. It works out that everything fits in 1:1 with no selective compression between the turnout and the trestle.
For those that don’t know here’s the sat view.

I also marked out tentative locations for the two private crossings at Darigold and car spacing. The scene will be flipped 180° from the prototype but that’s a compromise I can live with.

The silver NP refers is another location of the loading dock. Behind the cars is a trailer marking the edge of the building. I’m going to just make this one a building flat. I may have to extend the bench slightly wider but I’m thinking it should squeeze in.

Here’s some other photos.
Truck crossing just past the turnout.

East fork Issaquah Creek with the second crossing.

looking good Craig. Glad I could donate tot he cause. I am worried though. If that VW bug backs up much at all it is going to find itself in a doozy of a pothole.

I just got the frogs in the mail yesterday and am lacking motivation to keep cutting ties amongst all the other projects. But at least now I have a the supplies on hand. As I told Pete on Facebook, the goal is to get the golden spike by next April. We’ll see if that actually happens. The focus this summer is to get the backyard completed from layout stuff, to regular landscaping stuff. Part of that includes a new fence but I think the neighbor said he would foot the bill if I supply the labor.

I like those kind of deals, Craig, that me is one thing I have very direct supply of and if one days allotment runs out , a ne one arrives next day. Barring dog, goats coyotes, kids, etc that may need to be kept in or out.

Here’s the track is down…

I’m half tempted to go buy a 4x8 sheet of pink foam and start cutting out the massive building for this industry and let it sit in pink foam for a while as a “mock up” but I’ve got plenty of other things to do instead. Found out I’m number 4 or 5 in line for the Oley Valley 89’ flat so I need to get my butt working on the Breda bus design again. I would love to have that done or at least mocked up for the Bridgetown RPM in October.

Nice progress Craig. I might need to have another surgery so I can come see it in person. . .not. maybe just a social visit, sans surgery

Anytime you find yourself (or anyone on the forum) on the Kitsap Peninsula they are welcome to come visit. With enough heads up, treats might be offered alongside an ops session.

The goal is to get ops up and running sooner. I’m looking forward to fun modeling projects and detailing stuff. I’ve got a lot of ideas in the brain but they all take time and money. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

do i remember right, that Devon had been your guest for some days?
so it seems, that Devoning might be contagious?

Yes he’s been here a couple times. But not for fun reasons. The very first time I met him in person was not at my house but the very old Pacific Northwest RPM Meet in Monroe. Devon and Steve F took and adventure across the state and came to the event. Devon showed off his kitbash/scratch built locomotive.

The next time I saw him it was in Wallace, Idaho at the Northern Pacific annual convention. Devon was giving a presentation and I gave one as well. I don’t remember seeing his but I remember him coming to mine.

And then it was the brain trips…

And then phone calls, texts etc and a strange meet up with sister in Spokane while I was back home. I can’t remember if I was getting or sending him something.

We’ve tried to connect at his house in Post Falls once or twice when I’m visiting my sister but it never seems to work out.

So yah Devon’s had plenty of time to give me ideas but I’m sure that I made just as many before. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
