Large Scale Central

Bluestone Southern's Road to Memphis

Continuing, below is how it all looks when backfilled with dirt/clay…

Looking from the west to the east at the south end of the wall, Memphis rail yard…

Looking at the whole rail yard for Memphis backfilled with dirt/clay.

Once the area has been soaked with water a fe times, and settled somewhat, it will be filled with aglime for the roadbed and tracks installed…

Planning on having a 5-track yard in this area, to be able to store 4 complete trains, with one track being the mainline south…

Son, I say Son, you do things in a BIG way, big way, I say. You payin’ attention, Son? I’m pitchin’ ‘em, but you ain’t catchin’ em!

WOW!!! It’s like the Energizer Bunny of RRs, it just keeps goin,

Looks good! Fun to watch it grow.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Dad

You really need to find a job or something to occupy your extra time!

Have you made an offer on the neighbors property yet or are you planning on claiming eminent domain ?

Got to see this progress in person last night with the other “Friday Train Guys, minus one”. The new Wall looks quite different to me in person from what my preconceived notion I had from conversation. It slopes way back toward the southern border of the property and gives more room for the future pond plans. Jane and Andy have really mastered wall building and the final “power plant wall” will really complete the view from the deck down toward the southeast.

Who"s the manufacturer of the wall material? I’m gonna buy some stock in that outfit…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Ken, you be a little late… If it goes to plan, I won’t be needing any more wall bricks than what is left on that skid… So sorry… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Story of my life…day late and a dollar short…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

every time i look at the pics in ths thread, i’m smitten and horrified.

smitten by the great and big layout, horrified by the size of your lawn.

how many lawn is it? eight acres?

on my ranch i had a little over 4 acres of lawn. took two days to mow each time.

as far as i know, slavery in the US is outlawed. so, how do you keep that estate in shape?

(hmm, i think, i figured it out: you must be a mormon, with half a dozen wives… )

Korm, I’m cracking up… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Actually, the property is a little over 7 acres… Takes me about 5 hours actual mowing time, doesn’t account for any rest periods… If the wife wasn’t as involved with model railroading as I am, then it sure wouldn’t be as large as it is… She does all the work with the plants and trees, and we both work the layout itself… Friends who show early for the Operating sessions always help out, when things need some work on them… And, their help is always appreciated… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

To give a better view of where the new ““Memphis”” is located, below are some pictures from the deck…

This is a little closer view of the new area…

Just so ya know… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Andy it looks like you’ve almost reached the tree line and I’m ready to talk of about that merger.this is what we can work with (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hollywood, I kinda cheat… Every time I get close to the tree line, I always seem to curve the track away from it…

However, at the end of the Memphis Yard, close to the tree line, the mainline curves east, heading in your direction… I suppose it could pass the power plant and continue on east… That area on you map would make a fantastic area for a Hump yard… hehehe (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

when we moved to a handkerchief sized lot (just under 2 acres) my wife decided, that my physical condition did not permit to crawl in the dirt at 100F.

she had me build a big hobby room for staying indoors.

(but sometimes i got the impression, she just didn’t want me to mess up her tiny garden, because she doesn’t object letting me go into burning houses…)

her only interest in my hobby is watching, that it does not spill over into the rest of the house.

Thanks guys… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Ken, I had to get new batteries for the golf cart, the old ones just wouldn’t last long enough to get there… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Korm, Jane tells everyone that we built a house around a railroad… Basement and outside layout is still a work in progress, and there are also plans to run trains around the kitchen, breakfast nook, living room, front foyer, and formal dining room upstairs… The upstairs is still a work in progress also…

Jon, no EZ-pass… they charge too much of a collection fee… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)Cash only… (american)
