Large Scale Central

Bluestone Southern's May 2019 OPS session

Plan is to get the camper down there Friday AM. Setup and be there for Friday Ops/Maintenance in afternoon. Leave for appointment and granddaughter’s graduation by 3. Back some time in evening after family gathering and be available for breakfast on Saturday morning. Jan is going to stay at house Friday night with family that is coming in from out of town and be there by Noon Saturday. Looks like great weather and the start of a great year of Bluestone Southern Ops.

Sigh. Again, I will have to send regrets.

Does Steve hop, skip or jump? I know as I have gotten older, I tend to do less of those things.

Last I heard all he does is root around with a stick…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Today and a wake up and the BSOPS begins for the year. Looks like good weather.

I’d rather be there than cutting my Dad’s grass…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

First session is over… Was a wonderful weekend… Had about 24 folks…

Weather for the most part cooperated… However, most folks had a shower on Sunday afternoon during the downpour…

Hopefully, pictures will be forthcoming…

Below is where all the trains start… The lower level is the freight yards of Bluefield…

At the far right, is where the yards depart to the outside world.

The curve inside is 10 ft diameter…

Once out the window, you arrive in Bluefield proper… Mark has just departed the yards and arrived in Bluefield to

work Jane’s Milling (the red building to the right of Mark) then on to BJ’s Coop to work the elevator before departing

for the run to the Evansville yard.

Below, Mark is running the ““Big Bird”” special… I think the engineer might have been a bit confused,

as there seemed to be a lot back and forth for a while…

Below is MCL1 running to do the setups at the industries before the Ops started.

Below is MCL1 working Addieville elevator.

Below is MCL2 heading into Bluefield…

Below is MEM-BLU preparing to arrive in Memphis to start it’s run.

Below is Tmark preparing to run light back to Bluefield after doing the setup at Freeman Spur…

Below is the Overlook local departing Overlook as a pickup train.

Below is Ric working Overlook during Ops…

and still working Overlook…

Below is the unit coal train on the lower tracks running the Sparta Subdivision while MCL1 is running

across the bridge above it…

Below is the shay setup train as it departs Bluefield…

Shay arriving at the top of the switchback

Shay pushing up to get to the top of the switchback.

Unit coal train departing Woodlawn across the bridge to get to the Memphis Subdivision…

Unit coal train on the bridge that begins the Memphis Sub, just past the junction to Freeman Spur…

Unit coal train as it departs the Power Plant trackage…

Unit coal train arriving at Memphis to prepare for the return trip to the coal marshaling yard…

As a matter of fact, this was the first run of the EVWR SD-40-2’s 6001 and 6003 on the unit coal train…

The run went very well…

Unit coal train passing thru Hadley Forest on the Sparta Subdivision heading towards Sparta…

The weekend went well… Sunday’s Ops was cut a bit short by storms about 3 pm…

However, a good time was had by all… Was very enjoyable…

Great pics…Thanks Mom !
