Bluestone Southern Ops June 2018

OK, Fridays temps show 92 for a high, 95 on Saturday, and one might need a jacket for Sunday, as they say 85 for a high… Oh, and probably a bunch of Humididididity…

Would be nice if we could just have a bit of spring between winter and summer… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Spring was up here last weekend, Friday through Monday it was in the 60’s. You guys just live closer to the equator

Mike,

Our weather is still nice in October, you should try to make it down for the October OPs. Lots of LSC members show up for that Ops Session. It would be about a 5 hour drive for you down I-57.

And yet you didn’t send it south, either… hehehe (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Unfortunately I’m in the middle of a huge upgrade at work and I won’t be available this weekend. October it is

Would you mind putting out the welcome mat for Boomer and I on Sunday morning.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I was just preparing you Dad. You might need that address when Boomer and Hollywood arrive so I figured I would send them that way first.

Thanks for the invite Ric, I’ll have to see how things work out up here.

At would be the Police Department.

Ben Hancock, Boomer and Hollywood showed up yesterday. Along with a limited cast of the regulars, we prepared to tolerate some extreme temps. However, as we got back from breakfast we were commenting about a high cloud cover. As we progressed towards Noon, the cloud cover got threatening and we delayed putting equipment out. It started raining and continued most of the afternoon. We really didn’t get started until about 1530 and started running setup trains. Our threat of unbearable heat was overblown and though it got a little humid, the rain really kept it from getting so warm. As always, a lot of fun. Today, has a slight threat of rain, but should be a great run. Breakfast is scheduled for 0815 and we go from there. All is well, let the fun continue. Rumor is there may be snacks.

This is still on my someday list. Maybe come October when I start drawing SS as extra income I can afford to travel again, but not this year. I’m plumb out of vacation days; to many train related events!

Jon, this is basically an ““eat food”” event… We just run trains to work up an appetite… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Dad, we need pics or it never happened !

Hotter than a pepper sprout at the Bluestone Southern today, but we did run trains. Andy and Jane, Thank you again for having us over. It was a true experience being there and running trains.

Winner, Winner, Winner! Guess who gets the chicken dinner?

.

We wondered and had a bet going as to who would be the first to ask the question. Yes, there were many suspects, but he was one of the favorites. Pics will follow, but it does take time to get brain cells gathered and set priorities. I imagine pics will be published as there were a lot taken.

.

Hot! Is certainly the way to describe this event. It was a great time, but the rails were smoken. Makes you want to be there for the next one coming up in September.

OK, some pictures:

Below are Ben and Boomer out at Evansville

Ben’s train departing Sparta, running to Bluefield over the Y bridge…

Ben’s traindeparting the double track mainline heading to Bluefield…

Boomer at the bridge checking loco clearances of his train.
