Large Scale Central

Bluestone Southern at 10 year point

This entry is about the Bluestone Southern G-scale 10 Year point of our railroad. It is intended to show the differences from 10 years ago till now, 28 Oct 2015… Entries will be made on a continuing basis.

Below is a picture of Bluefield during the initial construction phase and the first running episode in 2006: (includes upper right, Dan Patterson, Andy and John Bible, lower left to rt Bill Hurteau, Jane, Roger?, lady in pink, Dale and Aaron Loyet)

Another view of the basic trackwork at Bluefield.

Bluefield as it looked from Hilltop Subdivision in 2007, with Aaron Loyet

Below are 2 pictures of Bluefield in 2015…with Buddy Lawrence, Bill Payne, and Denny Karner.

The photos show a subtle change, Andy.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Nice Work Andy! I wonder how many tones of earth you’ve moved over the years. I guess I need to start a 10 year plan!

Nice!! Just a subtle difference lol. Quite a flashback, and some good memories for sure. Not long after those first pictures were taken my early steamers would start terrorizing the line, and the Bluestone Southern would never be the same again lol

Nice memory walk Andy.

Congrats on 10 year anniversary, Andy. My, how things have progressed!!

-Kevin.

My guess is it’s been close to 8 years since I started going out there for Ric’s operating sessions while they lasted. So some of those early shots at Andy’s do look familiar. Surprising what all’s been done over those 10 years. Keep up the good work, you two…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks for the comments…

Jane plans on showing other areas of the railroad and the changes, also…

It really is fun to look back at early pictures and compare them with today. A railroad matures a lot in 10 years. Maybe RR Years are like Dog Years, 1=5 ???

I found some old pictures of my railroad, and yes, the changes are dramatic.

Nice work Andy & Jane; lovely layout with tonnes of maintenance!

Hey John,

Here is a dog year calculator… http://www.onlineconversion.com/dogyears.htm

Wow! That’s impressive. A LOT of work done, for sure!!!

I noticed something missing(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Andy and Jane's Bluestone Southern top down

A major part of Bluefield is the Industrial Park, one of the switching puzzles incorporated into the layout. In 2007, the track and siding supporting the Industrial Park is seen snaking across Bluefield from the south point to the west in the first pic below. Looking at Bluefield from the West end, you can just see the corner of the house on the left, and the ladder marking the future bridge to Hilltop.

The 2010 pic below includes a side track added from the house (Bluefield Freight Yards) on the mainline to Sparta Subdivision. The Industrial Park track lines have been added, and shrubbery has been established with some buildings to the Bluefield areas. (That observer might be Buddy Lawrence in the background).

The May 2015 pic below has a bit more green stuff (minature elms established their territory), use of the Industrial Park is in full swing with Ric Golding and Denny Karner in the foreground, and two unknown operators in the background.

In the October Operating Session this year the next two pics show the additional buildings established, and the stones (roadways and parking lots) that dual function as pathways for operators working the puzzle.

Wow. It’s been 10 years already!

Not fair using stunt doubles of Fred and Gord for photo ops !

Edit: cause I’m
