BlueRail board

Neat Eng. Nice work and tk’s for the short video. Now need a test run video and do you have a speed control? I may have miss it.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Noel,

The throttle is the big green button on the phone display. Slide it up to go faster.

Take a look at page 1 - you even get a choice of styles!

How will you be able to see the control screen out in the field in the sun? I know I can hardly see my iPhone 6s outside when I run my trains. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

iPhones and Bluetooth are beyond my experience but this is really cool to learn about (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

(and maybe beyond my budget too, but it is still way cool!)

So if you install the board in several locomotives is there a screen that you use to select which locomotive you want to control ?

Gary,

I believe that whichever loco is turned on will link up automatically. I could be wrong though.

When you first power up a board, it shows up on the initial screen on the app. You can select it, and name it something you’ll remember “Davenport”, for example, in my case. You can then select what loco you wish to run. The sync happened automatically, unlike some Bluetooth widgets where you have to press buttons and do all sorts of other magic.

I’ll be testing the range and visibility either tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks guys, Guess I missed the first page. Neat idea and lot to choose from. Guess when you get a ph. call you hit emgr. stop?

Maybe kind of a far out question, maybe not - I don’t know enough about this kind of thing to be sure. Would putting Bluetooth board inside a completely metal framed and bodied locomotive have similar effect to putting it in a Faraday cage?

If the antenna was inside the loco, then yes. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Here is a snip from their website…

“Mounting Position: To achieve maximum range, orient the board with the circuitry facing upward and the antenna as far from metal chassis areas as is reasonably possible. Mounting the board vertically is ok, but may result in slightly less range on the bottom (no circuitry) side of the board.”

Now I’m just waiting to hear a Blue Tooth speaker in the locomotive.

It was so cool when Bob was showing all of this to me - it was just so quick and easy.

The funny thing is that I spent a LOT more time just trying to get my Netbook computer to hook up with his Phoenix card in another locomotive.

Then he showed me how quick it was to do the sound via BlueRail… sheesh.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

A quick range test after work. Those that know my layout will understand the distances involved. I stood by the car float at Williamsport, and was able to control the Davenport on all track around my main layout, with no delay/issues/etc. So, I’m guessing at LEAST 50 foot range. Not too shabby.

Bob,

How was the visibility of the control app on your phone in daylight conditions?

No issues. Was a low sun, but bright. Display was a bit washed out but very visible.

Thanks Bob. This is sounding pretty good so far. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Bob,

Where did you mount the toggle switch and charging jack?

Out the bottom through the speaker grille

Are the sounds coming from the loco or the phone?

BTT(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

Right now the sounds are from your phone like Bruce said "Now I’m just waiting to hear a Blue Tooth speaker in the locomotive. " The gentlemen that

is making this board is working on it. He has used a 1 in. blue tooth speaker and linked to his phone. The cube was in a trailing car.
