Blizzard and 13 inches of snow in Buffalo

In about 10 hours yesterday we had over a foot of snow and 50 mph wind gust. We laughed at this Vulcan named storm. By 10 pm last night we had everything plowed and salted, our kids went to school today and all businesses open. No major snow disaster here just another day in paradise. Other places would have been a national declared disaster. They called it a blizzard we called it a regular day of winter here.

I know, I drove to Oswego during the blizzard of 93. Yunz guys are serious about snow removal up there.

13" is barely a dusting in WNY! I grew up in Clarence and was living in Wolcottsburg during the '76 blizzard. Now THAT was a storm. Some of my neighbors houses were completely covered with drifts.

All we got here in Western CT from this latest storm was a little rain and a lot of wind.

Troy, We got about 2’ up north of you just a bit. Seems like Lewiston doesn’t get as much snow all the time. This time we beat you! Lake Ontario doesn’t freeze over.

Yeah, whenever we got buried in snow coming off Lake Huron and/or Georgian Bay we’d say “Not too bad, let’s see how those guys in Buffalo feel about the Canadian greetings”

Pay back for all that hot humidity you sent north during the summer.

Troy thats pretty much how it is here. When we got 17 inches of snow a month ago, by morning the roads were clear. I remeber when we got 32 inches back in 96. Within a few hours after the snow stopped roads were clear. It helps when you have the equipment unlike the south.

It’s quite a bit different here. Schools and government closed with about 5" of snow last Monday. Earlier in the year, school was closed because it was too cold - about 8 degrees that morning. Maybe they think kids don’t own coats?

I had to do an emergency ambulance trip in that storm because the helicopters wouldn’t fly. Normally it takes us a little over an hour one way to do the trip but this time it was a two hour trip. But, that’s just life in northeast oHIo.

On Planet Britain they would be declaring the Apocalypse and the panicked cannibalism would have started about an hour after the trains stopped running.

93’ that was the first time Syracuse University canceled all classes due to snow, I remember that one, and yes the roads were drivable the next day…

y’all wanna see snow you can move here to Syracuse

Or head North a few miles to Watertown. They really get hammered with lake effect.

You are right there Vic. Here in the UK, a couple of inches of snow and they close the UK down…anything for a day off!! Airports, rail, schools…
I’m afraid a lot of the people of today just don’t have the get up and go of generations past…and the Health and Safety Rules imposed by the European Union do not help.

I lived 30miles south of Buffalo all my life. My mother’s hometown got 17 inches in one hour a couple years back.

Imagine my surprise a couple days ago, when they closed my kids’ school before the storm even reached this part of Pennsylvania!!!

I don’t even try running my outdoor track in winters like this :-p
