Doug,
THX for the heads-up on the fire situation up there. Had the place in the family since 1925. Don’t want to lose it now. I’m the “last custodian”. Haven’t heard from my security man OR the renter. I guess not to worry yet.

Today we aren’t even getting the smoke we got the past few days. I’ll yell if the fire gets “grumpy!”
The latest news at 6 tonight didn’t sound good. I hope all you guys near the fire make out OK.
Doug Arnold said:Ever since Fort Ord was shut down 95 percent in 1994 DOD contractors have been digging up ammo and what have you in the training areas to make it available for the public. They need to burn off a lot of the vegetation to do this and that always causes a political battle. Every so often the government wins and burns a section off. Fort Ord butts up against Seaside and that fence line is not even one mile above us. A few years ago one of the controled burns got so out of hand that a whole lot more of the land that they wanted to burn off but weren't allowed to got burned off including land that butts against Seaside. I was coming home from work that afternoon and saw all the smoke and the tanlkers flying overhead and almost had an accident. I'm not talking a vehicle accident either :(
Hi Gary We live down the hill from Wrightwood. I know we have gotten a lot of smoke the past few days but so far so good. That fire probably will move this way because that possible light rain they've been talking about will be from the south and heading north. There is one cause Victor didn't mention. That big fire currently burning at Yosemite was caused by a controlled burn by national park firefighters. Ooops!
Things got so bad that they had to post armed guards at the contractors compound on Ord. A lot of people were pissed. Opinion was that the whole thing was staged as getting out of hand so that they could burn off a lot more land than they were allowed to.

DISCLAIMER: I realize any disaster, natural or man-made is no joke for the people affected. Stay safe, and rebuild with brick.

Bricks and earthquakes don’t mix, steel and concrete are better choices Fire has layed down quite a bit, humidity is up and temp are down a little, hopefully we are on the end run of this one.
Good picture Victor. Maybe we can model it in g scale!
Doug,
I saw that picture that Victor posted and immediately thought of how great that would look on your railroad.
Is Doug modeling a disaster area? I could use some hints and tips for building my battle scarred areas.
Victor, the past 3 days we have had a haze in Denver. The weather people say it is smoke from the fire in Ca. Jake
I hadn’t thought much about it but it is primarily a mining layout. But creating some earthquake damaged buildings would fit right in. Not that California ever has any earthquakes!=)
I don’t know if it has to be the result of an earthquake. I just thought the derelict building, from what ever cause, would look good on your railroad. Probably more of a color thing and texture of the brick or in Doug’s case, rock walls.
One building I do plan to build is a dynamite factory that has blown up!
That old LGB dynamite car is aways a hit at shows.
I’ll have to find one. I’ll keep my ears open. I’m sure the time peiod is right. And I won’t blow it up!
Has anyone bought from Pizza Express in Illinois?.
Doug,
Yes, a lot of our club members have bought from the Pizza Express. I’ve purchased a number of items personally and always very satisfied. The pizza is also pretty good, but for you I think the delivery charges could be a little high.
Cold pizza would be good. He does have a dynamite car that would be a blast to get. I dropped him a note.
