I wish they could make some progress on it but with only 5 percent containment they aren’t. We’re on the desert north of you and even though it’s 30 miles away it’s really smoky. We were in Las Vegas yesterday and it’s even smoky and smelly there!
This is not getting any better and continues to get much worse.
I think I will never again complain when it is raining.
Ralph
How nifty !!! We had some soot on the vehicles this morning from the weenie roasts over in Calif. The roasts in and around Los Angeles mountains are big threat and when it rains there some day, the mud slides will be the next disaster.
I hope all are prepared but don’t move here as it’s rather DRY and HOT.
I like it, I like it !!! But 110 is a little uncomfortable if you are outside very long.
Cheers, TOF in Lost Wages.
Hey Daryl, it was 105 Saturday and Sunday less than 10% humidity guess we’ll stay put, its cooler here

Just heard the news that two firefighters have lost their lives battling the blazes.
Heroes, all.

One of our train club members is one of the firefighters and lives a few miles from where one of those firefighters is from. He probably knew him.
Yes 2 firefighters dies when there vehicle veered off a narrow mountain road, they fell 700 feet, really sad but demonstrates just how steep and trecherous these mountains are, they are the steepest in the western US.
Up to 120K acres now, 5 people who ignored evac orders are now trapped in a small back country community and there is no way to reach them till it burns over.
What causes all these fires every year?
people building homes where they got no business doing so. God keeps telling them to move and they just don’t listen!
Investigators haven’t committed to a cause yet but the two raging in San Bernardino County were arson-caused.
David Hill said:Doug is correct, most are started by very very ill people, but there are other causes, lightning strikes, automobile fires speading to sides of highways, campfires, smokers tossing their coals, motocross bike exhaust pipes setting brush afire and the ever popular shooting guns in places and times they shouldnt be shooting.

Doug,
I have a cabin in Wrightwood. The fire looks like it is headed in that direction.

Hi Gary
We live down the hill from Wrightwood. I know we have gotten a lot of smoke the past few days but so far so good. That fire probably will move this way because that possible light rain they’ve been talking about will be from the south and heading north.
There is one cause Victor didn’t mention. That big fire currently burning at Yosemite was caused by a controlled burn by national park firefighters. Ooops!
Victor Smith said:shooting guns in places and times they shouldnt be shooting, For my education please , how are the fires started from shooting ? This is NOT an arguement or statement or picking sides , I just want to know how ?David Hill said:Doug is correct, most are started by very very ill people, but there are other causes, lightning strikes, automobile fires speading to sides of highways, campfires, smokers tossing their coals, motocross bike exhaust pipes setting brush afire and the ever popular shooting guns in places and times they shouldnt be shooting.

they don’t call ‘em FIREarms fer nuttin’ Hot lead, dry grass…gunpowder still makes a flame…only takes a spark…and too where theres irresponsible use theres genrally alcohol and cigarettes …
Hi Dennis
I’ll jump in and answer that one. It happens when someone hits rocks instead of a target. We have also had fires started out here on the desert when people are using their weed wackers and hit a rock which can also cause sparks like the shooters. It doesn’t take much to set off this dry brush. We have a shooting area between us and Wrightwood that has a shooting area that was closed more than 15 years ago. People with guns still use it sometimes.
I had wondered about the firearm statement. I am glad Dennis was answered and got good replies.
