The double mash phase!
If my estimates are correct he’s made it back to potato-land which means he should have already started the bourbon tour.
Reports are that the Big Boy is chasing him now.

Sad to say there has been no bourbon tour. Just nursing a cheap bottle of Evan Williams . But I bought a six pack of scotch ale on day one from the McCall Brewi g company that is good.
Nah Bill I am in Montana right now. I am only a couple hours from home but I was getting punchy and my driving was less than safe so we called it a day.
Whilst you’re in Montana, will you be taking the Lassen Challenge and getting a picture of a personalised Devon sign; perhaps partaking in a great number of Devon discounts that the town may provide?
I don’t know if anyone could ever beat the 50% Susan Discount we got in Susanville, but I’m sure you’ll do better than I did in my town.
Hopefully you’ll have better success than me in WA. Yeah, mine is a railway town too. Sigh.
Devon is a bit out of my way. I have been through it on Amtrak. But I won’t be heading there today. And not sure what I’d get a discount on considering there ain’t much there.
That was interesting. Because in Ogden it appeared as if it was hooked up to some freight cars. But couldn’t tell if it was just parked by them or if they were connected. That answers that. Wonder why they picked up freight for the return trip?
Diesel don’t like to share.

Downward Ho!
EDIT: (Downward - ELEVATION, map looks flatter to me)
Thanks for the travelogue, Bill, It’s been very helpful!
And for all the great pics!
I have finally made it back to civilization. Now I need a weeks vacation to recover from my vacation. But I promise this weekend I’ll put something together to share. Was a fun 10 days. Two things I love dearly trains and wildlife. And it was full of both.
Looking forward to this!
Forget the popcorn!
Might ask Herself how to prepare a Devonshire Tea for the occasion. Though the recipe has probably been posted on the Cooking Fun Foods thread
How subtle is this?
Another perspective.
Hey don’t take me wrong here, I love the Big Boy and have followed it since its removal from static display.
I just think it interesting how stories can grow.
Great video Rick. Are there any of the bigger engines on display anywhere?
Bill,
I believe that in the video they stated that 3 of the Yellowstones are on display.
The C&O “Allegheny”, though only a 2-6-6-6 and therefore not as long as a Big Boy, is also in the running for most powerful steam locomotive.
Perhaps close behind the Allegheny, this 2-6-6-2 C&O Mallet, the #1309, is amazing to see steaming into the station at Cumberland.
And then there was also the “Erie”
What was the tractive effort of the Erie Triplex locomotive?
They were some of the shortest lived steam locomotives we ever had. Most people would be surprised to learn that the tractive effort of a Triplex is a astronomical 176,256 pounds! It even has 66,000 more pounds of effort then the almighty Allegheny. Truly the most powerful steam locomotive ever created.
