Thanks for the map, Bill.
Not sure how the Texas stops will be accomplished, but I guess it’s a work in progress.
Will the trip for you and Herself coincide perhaps with Big Boy stops?

At this time Cliff,
Who knows I’ve been excelling a learning the Northern Idaho lifestyle.
My guru says I must learn to multitask so…
We are Devoning the idea of seeing the BIG BOY or at least Cheyenne by Amtrak
but also Devoning the NGRC,
and also Devoning the Japan WORLD EXPO 2025,
plus Devoning a Blue Train trip and Madagascar,
even Devoning a Eurail Pass
Priorities. He will have another. . . No I get it. That’s to bad you can’t make it work but family trumps trains
I hope so. To disrespect a beautiful iron beast by stalking it with an ugly dino burner should be a crime. Hope the big boy is sans the diesel. But I understand if it needs to be. I’ll just photoshop it out of pictures. . .
My padiwan is growing up. . . He may be ready for the trials
I’d love to come along on this trip especially as the route is already plotted out for active GPS. I’m not used to travelling vicariously.
Here’s the webpage Big Boy route
I am already Devoning David Attenborough narrating the trip from N. Idaho.
Just saw this posted on Facebook…
Looks like no solitary engine on these trips
Seems like maybe they’re taking baby steps with the Big Boy, and gradually updating his procedures & equipment. Maybe brakes will be upgraded as well some year?
Thanks for posting that, Jon. I think it’s so unbelievable that the BB is not only running, but becoming a safe part of their operations to a some extent. Who’d a thunk it 15 years ago?
Back to the article, I’m not clear on how a diesel can “extend fuel and water when needed.” They using it as a pumper somehow?
I also wonder how all the cars get their electricity… does each one have its own wheel-powered generator, or does the diesel supply the juice?
Put the steamer in "neutral and let the pressure die off some, perhaps?
Probably have a diesel HEP generator in one of those baggage cars.
The UP has a couple power cars…I always liked 2066 and thought about modeling it for the CVRR more than once.
Makes sense! On other shorter steam trains, was it typical to have the loco supply all the juice from its generator?
Wheel-powered generators on each passenger car would perhaps build up an enormous strain for the loco to deal with…
I could look this stuff up, but would rather sit here on my behind having a beer and asking someone else to do it.
Totally makes sense, duh on me.
Well Cliff,
As I sit here on my behind drinking beer in the AC cause it too dang hot out today. I thought ahhhh I have the page bookmarked already I’ll just hit my bookmark! Welp…my bookmarks are all organized very well but I got pissed off and just googled and posted it!
BTW… I did find the bookmark …it was under “CVRR modeling projects”?? Daaahhhh…what a dumasse
Neat that you found it! Very cool car!
Does the UP Heritage Train have one of those?
And how does a long string of Amtrak coaches get power?
First time I ever saw the power car was on the Presidential consist for George HW Bush and proceeded to look it up .
Oh, of course!

How come The Cliff Notes didn’t include how to do the upside down fonts?!
Hilarious!
