Big Boy moves from Los Angeles -- when?

TRAINS magazine states the BIG BOY loco at the LA County Fairgrounds will be moved when the LA Fair closes – the 29th.

Anyone with further information?

My guess is the side rods will be removed and it will be pushed up Cajon Pass out of LA area. The question is when? That will be well worth seeing.

Further data: The moving of the loco to Cheyenne, WY., is for restoration. Apparently, the labor force is from volunteers not Union Pacific employees. Granted, UP is involved in all aspects. Cajon Pass has numerous observation sites that I anticipate will be jammed with steam enthusiasts as this giant loco is pushed up the grade.
Those of you who have scanning contact with UP, please keep us informed as to when the relocation is to start from LA County Fairgrounds, Pomona, Ca. Thanks.

I thought they were going to BEGIN the moving process after the Fair, its going to take a while to get the shoo-fly track built from the Metrolink line across the parking lot to the museum site. Once they can move it, it will NOT go direct to Cheyenne but to Colton, where they will prep it for the move to Wyoming, that move date has yet to be determined.
