Mark, no it wouldn’t take months. They would announce it months after the original version was produced, then push back the expected delivery a few times. Then 2 to 3 years after the announcement of the new version, they would show a test shot, but say its going to be delayed again because the shot has some “issues” that need to be corrected. Then another push back on the expected delivery. Then the whole project just simply fades away, never to be seen again.

Sheesh and here I thought I was cynical enough, but you added a whole new layer.

Hans, me, cynical? No, not me.

Now be honest Hans, you have seen that movie too.

The printers don’t quite like building angles upwards, the layers tend to smear more, that I think is what your seeing, on flat surfaces where the layers are built on top of each other there is minimal issues

even at low resoloution this is easy to sand out and smooth up ( the inside has not been cleaned from some of the supports and you can see some interior flash.)

I see what you mean , Mark . Not understanding the process makes it difficult to ask a question without its seeming to be an implied criticism .

Can I assume that different mediums’ densities gives different finishes ? Or is it simply down to the “angle of attack” ?

Mike

Coupler pocket assembly are printed and test fitted

only parts left to test print are the doors and bogies, the bogies should be a riot of fun, lol

yes rooster, there will be heep cables, lol

It’s HEP Mark (head end power)

The visible brake discs will likely be just as fun.

The voice text thing on iPhone five says that it is Heep with two ee’s so you must be wrong laugh out loud

This is where i’m at and yeah that outside brake arm is gonna be tough using a 3d printer

Mark, maybe you should print the parts separately, you know, print a bogie (truck) kit.

The problem is that there are no flat surfaces anywhere on the brake assembly and that makes it a little tougher, trying to keep parts count down on this one, i hope to do this in 3 parts but i’m probably going to have to do 5… only time will tell and i’m looking at getting an extruder to recycle the plastic so I won’t be wasting plastic on crap like this…

I would like to see a pic of the trucks if you have one. I’m not familiar with these cars at all and I would have thought they had disc brakes and not shoes like that ?

the left side is disk brake the right looks like a regular compressed brake shoe

OK!

1)This is where I always ask myself how far I’m prepared to go.

2)Do I want a shelf queen or a model I can play with, not fearing I will break off pieces.

3)10’ away and what the eye catches is completely different than holding it in your hand and looking at it.

Just my thoughts

the good news is that on the other side they flop sides so it’s the same sideframe (the disc brake is on the right and the comp shoe is on the left)

Rooster, yes I am with you there. I build “running models” so many of the fragile bits simply aren’t installed.

This is what I’m thinking. When the coach is moving, no one is going to be paying much attention to the trucks, and when its stopped, those who might pay attention to the trucks will be occupied in counting rivets. A reasonable facsimile is all you need.

I have been posting this car on facebook and have several people that are interested in multiple quantities, so i’m no longer modeling this for me and my railroad or i’d just put arch bar trucks under it and laugh at the rivet counters as they blown their brains out…

um for a test print it came out a lot better than I thought it would, only 1 corrupt surface in the model, eh i’ll take it

Looks like a space alien.

The alien will have a sibling within the half hour, they are multiplying…

Another reason I want this car to look good is it will be on display att he New York State Fair Train Show, Nov 1-3 (or whatever the date is) I doubt there are many west coast modelers in the are, but i’m sure it’s gonna get ripped apart by the rivet counters…

updates on the bogies

Oh my! That’s like the B17 cockpit I did. I painted and detailed the cockpit and on the display shelf you cant see much of it at all. But at least we know whats “under the hood” so to speak.

got the doors started the one to the left has the supports still in the windows
