Large Scale Central

Bi Level Bombardier cars

Still have to print 4 more pieces to make 1 complete body, here’s the first sets

Shown with the Bombardier F140 I’m working on

oooh, Technicolor.

Some of the colors you print make these things look cheap or toy like. The design alone sets a high standard.
Very inspiring work.

Nice work Mark! Ive seen these in some pretty intense paint schemes… What railroad are these going to be done in?

I may need to have you make some single level commuter car ends for the F40PH to pull.

I’m trying different filaments, that’s the reason for the color changes, if they are all the same color (say black) then it would be hard to deterime at a quick glance as to what manufacture made the filament. All I have to do is look inside in the future to identify which filament it was.

The print of the part itself isn’t the only “test” i’m doing here, there is a method to my madness

The rest of this car should be in blue and green, the pink is long gone…

Jeff I will be doing atleast 2 of these cars, 1 will be a “finished car” the other will be partially finished and placed on a 89 footer outside my Bombardier facality on my layout. Bombardier has a finishing factory in Plattsburgh (on the old Air force base grounds) which my D&H Ausable Branch serviced. I plan on doing the NJ transit car or 2 to also put on the siding at this facility

(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0a/GO_Transit_Willowbrook_02.JPG/300px-GO_Transit_Willowbrook_02.JPG)is what 1 will look like

This isn’t the same model car but should give an idead of waht i’m gonna do, this is outside the facility in plattsburgh

Joe, once they are painted the color doesn’t matter…

The pink is long gone? I guess that filament didn’t quite work out for you then?

You are a busy guy there. You are putting us arm chair modelers to shame.

The pink roll was for the wifes cat key chain self defense death dagger thingamabob, wasn’t my choice, but if it’s on the printer it’s gonna get used up!!

Use whatcha got. Yup, dat makes sense.

Door sections should finish up today, only 2 more window sections to send to the printer

Mark, I was just commenting to the “Technicolor” comment. Very nice work.

Wow that’s great. Looks just like our local Metrolink cars.

1:29 scale?

Yup 1/29th

The other door section had a small hiccup, didn’t quite scale out correctly, wasted 6 hrs on the printer overnight, oh well, going to suspend this section from the roof inside the factory on the layout I guess…

Or build an outside crane that could hold it, oh the possibilities…

Looks like this project will get another color, purple just might have to be used…

Here’s the parts on an 89’ flat

There are 4 windows in the middle when complete

Planning on doing a few cars that would look good behind a F40ph including a surfliner

Got my hands on a 3d printing pen (handheld 3d printer) I used it to “weld” the remaining pieces together. of course I forgot to bring a camera today, will take some pictures tonight of this beast.

Basic dimensions 32 inches long and 1025g of plastic, so 1 entire roll of plastic (1k rolls)

This unit is a B unit - no power cab end, I have the powered cab end ready to print for the next one I print. Going to use tinted windows for the finished product one, still have to print the doors, pilots are printing now…

A passenger car with a powered cab and pilots? I must be old school, in my world passenger cars are for passengers.

The end unit has a control cab so they don’t have to move the engines on the train to reverse

But these are commuter trains in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). They just did a deal to buy the CN line from Georgetown to Kitchener (area of my old haunts) i.e. the GTA is growing.
