Ok , I fell for it .
I bought a Programme disc , it advertised the programme that I bought it for plus Enc Brit . Now , I know Enc Brit ain’t Brit any more , 'cos the Americans bought it . But along with the buy came the very distasteful American way of selling . Why do you chaps put up with it ?
I found that , to make the thing work , I had to register , the wording of which is such that I nearly accidentally signed up for a very costly Enc Brit–the thing I had already bought . Nah , silly sod , you just bought into a data collecting scheme whereby they entice you , get all your details , nearly get you entrapped , and quite likely sell the info .
So , I replied to the customer service address on the welcoming email .
Guess what ? Mailer Daemon says he’s given up --the usual response from a company that does not give a shit when doing his type of business . We can only hope his constipation will be the death of him .
Anyone got a good programme to inject up their nasty chuffs to bring intrusion into THEIR ordered lives ?
Or can someone tell me how to get in touch with Enc Brit to tell them to their faces what a load of unscrupulous creeps they are ?
Have a nice day .
Mike
Can’t help you one bit with that problem, Mike…but…
While your mind is on email, and all it’s faults…
Send a note to young Coleman…he thinks he might have hurt your feelings or something…!!!
…and would you care to join in the “Circle/cycle of Fiends”…you would be most welcome, and seem most fit to join, with your thick skin and able humour…!!!
Fr.Fred
Me , hurt feelings ? Whatever for ? I don’t think Deryck in particular would do that --I don’t understand .
Any road up , as we say , which circle of friends ? I’ll be friendly with anyone , you know me by now .
Deryck upset me ? Nah , can’t think how . More likely the other way round .
Mike
Mike,
There’s always been a problem with Encyclopedia Brittanica in this country…at least in my experience. When I was much younger I wanted to purchase a set of encyclopedias. I talked to varying salesmen over a period of probably five years or more. Asked questions. How much per volume? What was the difference in quality of binding and price between regular and deluxe editions? Could never get a straight answer. Their tack was for me to tell them my “needs”, commit to buy and they would “custom fit” a set for me. Thus they couldn’t/wouldn’t give me any kind of price beforehand.
I don’t buy things this way. I want to know what’s available and it’s price and make my own choice. I would never put my decision or money in the hands of the “nice salesman”. I finally just gave up and to this day have never owned a set of Encyclopedia Brittanica.
Richard , thanks for your considered reply .
Why am I not surprised that there is a history of this ?
The blurb on the disc sounded almost a paraphrase of your posting , no definitive offers , just vague “discover the ----” , " at the touch of a key —" and so forth-or even fifth !!
All I wanted was a ready reference as advertised , no books , pictures , verbose descriptions , and so on . Just a simple easy reference to facts . As advertised . No chance , all I got was a come-on to deeper mysteries–like how could anybody be so daft as to fall for it . .
Perhaps not me next time .
Some must , who pays their wages ?
Mike
ps , associated with this , I now am suspicious of anything COREL–it was their disc .
Mike…
Pick up the telephone, and call Deryck…say it’s me calling, and that you want to get connected with the “Fiends of the Cycle”…then tell him the truth…
…that Fr.Fred, the lowly Branch Railroadian friar, put you up to it, and you want him to hear your confession.
Confess that you seekethed “Knowledge” from the wrong book, and that you will stick with Branch Railrodianism, for your knowledge in the future…using LSC as your main medium…!!!
