Best way to make a 1:29 0-6-0

I have in the back of my head to make a 0-6-0 or maybe a 2 or 4-6-0. I have several old “big Haulers”, as well as an old-style Aristo Pacific that is currently sitting idle, in pieces I thought about simply cutting down the Pacific’s boiler/frame, making it shorter overall, maybe cutting the pilot down to two wheels or shortening it or removing it altogether. Find a way to add a dome

Or maybe something like this:

Then I looked at Vic’s Big Hauler into 0-6-0 and though that would be fun, although a BIG challenge What would be the easiest way for a beginner to go? Cut down the Aristo Pacific or modify a big hauler?

Mike, this is my ‘cutdown’ Big Hauler. Whatever way you look at it, it is still a Big Hauler. Would require numerous body mods to make it look standard gauge.

Mine was a bit of a fluke to start with, I had the dismantled Big Hauler, took the chassis, shortened to driverods and moved the steam chest back, then left it that way for a couple of years. When I did the 0-6-0, it was in a manic rush using whatever parts I had laying around, a PVC boiler, a Scientific Toys cab and domes, smokebox face and stack from a dismantled Aristo 0-4-0, and a mess of sheet styrene, almost by accident after I had most of it built I came across a photo in the Model Railroader Steam Encyclopedia in the 0-6-0 section that was almost a dead ringer for my lokie, proving there is a prototype for everything.

The Aristo Pacific would work well for the 2-6-0 in the second pic, but the drivers would be way too tall for a switcher. The Big Haulers work better for that.

Thank you both–it’s very helpful to get your responses. I’ll keep thinking about it

I’m not sure about “numerous.” Lowering the domes and cab, and getting rid of the smokestack cap go a long way to making the loco look more standard gauge. Replace the stock tender with an Aristo-Craft slope-back tender, and you’ve got something that looks a great deal like many 0-6-0 switchers. Sure, there are still subtle differences, but the overall proportions when compared to other SG equipment on the market is improved. Later, K

Tim that is a nice looking piece of work

I was at home depot today about bought a length of 2 inch PVC. Looks like a boiler to me!

Maybe

Is there a good website for Big Hauler kitbashes?
