Berlyn Work Goose #6-New Aquisition

STILL can’t seem to post a picture here! Help!

I don’t know what i did, but it actually worked. Do I dare try another?

Windows? If so, this should help.

I have the photos in my TrainShed files (which I have paid for!)-resized and everything! I click on My Files below and they just will not Upload. Very frustrating to say the least

If you have them in your trainshed, using Windows, a single click on the file should open up a window asking if you want to copy the URL to your clipboard. Click yes, and then you can “paste” the URL into your post. Hit “Quote” on my post and you’ll see what the file path looks like. You’re missing the file path in your URL in your 1st post. Ralph

Thanks a bunch Ralph. I’ll try again. I know it can’t be this hard! I can post in the “other place” and that’s a PITA.

Thanks again Ralph.

I bought this Goose yesterday from Jonathan Bliese’s collection. Has airwire and Phoenix sound. I ran it this morning and it was very smooth! Thanks Jonathan.

Looks great…glad you got the picture thing sorted out

Beautiful Gary,

So what is the layout? Battery, speaker, and RC card in the crate, sound card under the tarp?
Is part of the install, one of the cards, in the back of the cab like we talked about, just curious.

Which throttle are you using for it?

Rick

I love my goose 6. Watch out for cracks in the driveshaft, mine has em, but ive epoxied them tight…

Rick, The battery is under the wood crate. Jonathan was pretty pround of the sound he got out of the little speaker he used in this install. I STILL haven’t found it! The Airwire card is split. Part of it is under the tarp (the frequency dial is here) and the other part is under the rear of the stake bed. The Phoenix card is under the bed, forward of the rear truck and just above the drive shaft. It’s a very neat install. Jonathan has to send me a short “temporary” cable to plug into the Phoenix card for the programming port. It’s not a permanent port. I’m using the T5000 throttle with it. I found I use the T5000 for everything now. Just much more convenient than the T9000. Berlyn sure makes a beautiful model.

Bob,

I checked the drive shaft and it looks OK. No cracks. Thanks for the tip.

Rick, that install info is top secret. No, seriously, I had seen installs on 6 done with huge crates and boxes on the back, that completely filled all the space and more. Completely wrong as the RGS never had cranes or mechanical assistance, it was a bankrupt narrow gauge after all. Any crate larger than what 3 or 4 men could handle would be wrong. Plus every Photo of 6 shows tools, debris , bits of rail and small boxes or barrels in the back, it was not used to carry cargo, it was a work train piece. So I set out to do a hidden install . Split the airwire , half on top and half underneath, no way the decoder would fit in a small crate up on top. I did this a number of years ago, and it has run on Del oro,my own line and more for quite a while. Never managed to run the battery down in a session, as the Motor in this one is very low current draw. Pack is special 14.8 lithium, 1500 mah I use for small and trick installs where space is lacking, it is ideal, but not required for all the geese because they do not pull trains, but is perfect for the open air number 6. The early production, around year 2000 had the problem of u-joint failures. Second batch in 2004 did not. This one is already fixed permanently a long time ago, clamp the joint , wrap in heavy thread, and epoxy or super glue the joint and surrounding thread. Fuse protection and power routing are under seat in cab. Recharge port is in tool box on left side behind cab. Speaker is special long excursion rubber surround oval mounted under goose engine. I have a done a number of these for folks over the years.

Thanks Jonathan for the history of this piece. Sorry I let the “cat out of the bag”:frowning:
BTW, I ran it on Russ’ layout this morning and it ran flawlessly. Very, very smoooooooth! Used the T5000, top speed at step 15 of 28. It’s NOT a hotrod. Took me 4 minutes to go 160 feet, “pedal to the metal”. 9.2 mph at 1/20.3 scale speed. Ran for about an hour til the battery gave up. I’m very pleased with YOUR baby. Thank you again.

Jonathan,

By any chance do you remember what the CV values were for the top speed? In other words the values for CV5 and CV6? Just curious.

Received an e-mail from Jonathan last night saying the model has low gearing. Again, a well engineered model!
