Benchwork at Franklin Falls

The existing step-over will move about 3 feet, about centered in that gap where the last photo is. That flat shrubby thing will get moved somewhere.
That's my type of "Garden Railroader" - "That flat shrubby thing will get moved somewhere."

Yep, that says a lot.

Is the Latin name “flattus shrubus thingum”?

Looking good.

Is there another kind? “Hey, this plant is in the way of the RR, where’s a shovel?”

I think you're supposed to capitalize Flattus. ;)

you are NOT married, i suppose?

What is the decking material? It looks like treated one-by’s…
Thanks
Steve

Korm, yea, I am, ans Martha is the same kind of gardener I am. “this is in a bad place, lets move it.”

Steve: its 5/4 x 6 PT deck boards.

“That flat shrubby thing will get moved somewhere”.
Compost pile?

“this is in a bad place, lets move it.”

Jan says the same thing when stuff has been stepped on or tripped over enough to kinda up root it. She took care of that this year, moved or pulled almost all of them and made me haul in river rock or put in new plants. I guess I showed her.

Its been a rough year for the railroad.

Didn’t you install that bridge elsewhere? I thought there was a thread about installing it.

Oh nevermind, I just looked at your first picture in the other thread. You had two of them…

Do yourself a favor and please stake that reused spline at all the points that they used too be at(paint and joining lines). Even though it’s connected too the benchwork and feels stable, stake it anyway!..don’t ask me how I know this!

Oh thats just there to set the curve. Itll get staked every 12-15" once the route is set.

“I’m thinking that a single-ended yard here, due to the length.”

Bob,

plan on having at least one run around track for the engine to escape, the tail long enought for your K27.

Al: Oh yea, probably the K plus a car length for switching, just in case. Here’s today’s work so far. Worked the approach a bit. Moved the shrubby thing. Set the bridge where it will end up living, and mocked-up one of the piers. Dug out the walkway for the step-over.

Just curious, why is there a bridge here? I was thinking this might be the water leading to Williamsport, but then there is no bridge on the existing main.

Probably downstream of the falls at Franklin Falls!
