Large Scale Central

Beginners, I'd like YOUR help, please!

As some of you may know, I administer a summat rail related, and general ‘rant’ board called the-ashpit.com. Since we weren’t using near the bandwidth or web storage we were paying for, I also began doing an info site on my garden railroad, various build projects and beginners’ tips. see: http://www.the-ashpit.com/mik/layout.html

In an effort to bring more new folks into the hobby, I’m considering setting up a new feature for the AV pages in 2012 - dedicated to showcasing the work of beginning large scale railroaders. First layouts, early scratchbuilding efforts, first custom paint jobs, stories of what brought you into the hobby, money saving tips, problem solving, etc. I could host the pictures, text, etc on the Ashpit domain, and I can do photo and text editing if needed, (or just link to your own webhost, if you prefer!) but I can’t tell your stories…

But what I’d like to know is:

  1. Is it something you’d find interesting to see?
  2. Are any of you courageous enough to share your stuff for online publication?
  3. What recurring newbie questions do you find the answers hard to come by?

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm. My submission failed. Anyway, it’s a good idea. I like it. Of course, it will be an ever-changing audience as we promote ourselves out of Noobdom.

Here is the question I am working on… Renovation and lubrication of my old (Bought on ebay) locos. I am assuming my sluggish behavior (leisurely roll at 14.4 volts…) is because I need grease/oil.

That kind of thing…

Mik Im in on it. I like the idea. You have seen my post ect… from day one. To make it easier for me is there anything you would like me to focus on?

Once a beginner, always a beginner...that's my motto! Steve

Good point, Steve!

Heck, I’ve been garden railroading about seven years and just started “bashing” two years ago with that MOW competition we had on the list.

Wot’s AV?
