Good lord! Real bear whiz isn’t even worth that much!

I keep saying it, BIN is DESTROYING Ebay, this idiotic prices are setting the conditions of unrealistic expectations when one seller sees this and turns around a sets their prices in the ionosphere and everyone else soon follows suit. The poor buyer sees this crap and gets the idea that large scale is hugely expensive and says screw this and instead goes fishing.

Or the good BIN deals go in seconds whereas the bad BIN deals linger for weeks giving someone the impression there are no good deals to be had. Smart buyers/sellers see this stuff sit for weeks and weeks.

Recent deals:

Aristo Wisc. Central SD45 shelf queen…$95.00 (Still kicking myself)
4 AML 1:20.3 D&RGW stock cars for $185.00 (Real happy on that one!)
Bachmann Santa Fe side rod diesel…$120.00
Gramps Spectrum Tanker…$75.00
Spectrum Connie…$200.00

There are good deals to be had, but like most stores they are burried in the “muck”.

Oops! AMS, not AML.

Oh, kinda cheezed I didn’t grab the Connie but a wise man once said, “You can go broke buying bargins”.

I agree with Mark - you have to watch and search carefully for the deals. I’ve picked up quite a few AML D&RGW cars (flats, boxcars, reefers) the past year for very reasonable prices. But had to be there when they hit eBay - gone in minutes sometimes.

So you’re the one beating me to them. :stuck_out_tongue:

What really sucks is some idiot actually bought them!!!

O.O

I was going to say I just got a couple of receivers at a fair price…

Thats exactly my issue, even if one guys pays thru the nose, it just encourages the sellers to stick it to the rest of us with those loony prices.

Vic,

It’s not “Buyer beware”, it’s “Buyer will swear”.

Or as another proverb should go: “You can always get more money, but there’s no way to get more brains.”

It would seem to be a self correcting problem. If ONE person thinks they’re worth $1200, then nobody else will buy them at that price. If they keep selling at $1200, then that’s what they’re worth. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy at any price. Value of items purchased with disposable income is what people will pay for it.

I wonder how many people that win with such a huge bid actually buy the item?

Good point Doug. Bought & paid are two different things. "Buyer's remorse" is quite common on eBay. A "no pay strike" costs nothing compared to the $1200 bid on the Bear Whizz ;) Ralph

I think for those of us who have been around the hobby long enough know the true value of most any item that comes through Ebay. Over the years I have set rules for myself and limits to what I’m willing to spend of course there are always exceptions such as when a really rare piece comes through that I just have to have.
Time and time again I watch items with high prices go through without any bids then just to be reposted at the same high over inflated price. Luckily these ridiculously high priced items don’t lead the market they are an exception that most of us look at with a chuckle. Sometimes they do sell to the unaware or someone that’s just gotta have it.
In the case of these bear whizz cars I wonder how the buyer will feel when he sees them next time offered for $50??
Buyer Beware

Todd, the problem is them wont be offered for 50 for quite a while, now that some numnum paid that much for them…

You know, i ought to put one of my custom Arcade & Attica hoppers up for bid. it might get a princely sum.

BTW what is the going rate for real bear whiz? :open_mouth:
