Beach Train to Santa Cruz Boardwalk (Calif)

On sunday the wife and I road the Beach Train from Roaring Camp in Felton to the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz and back. One heck of a great experience to say the least. Attaching a picture of the engine for the railfains.

Looks like you had some good weather to go along with your visit there. I’m not a diesel fan but up at Roaring Camp is what I like, geared engines.

Did you get a chance to lookie see the train stuff in the hills ?

I like the white trucks on the locomotive.
A “Beach Train” is pretty cool.
Wish I had a train here I could hop to the beach.

There used to be a train some 45-50 years ago that left the Oakland Mole for Santa Cruz. It was called “The Suntan Special”. At least that’s what we called it.I’ll ask my older sisters!

We did that about four months ago.

It was great. As we pulled into the Boardwalk Area the train crew started playing Beachboy songs and the old standby Under the Boardwalk. I haven't been to the Boardwalk since I got out of the Navy in the 60's and it really brought back memories. Not to mention all the gals in bikinis and such. My wife let me look though so I really appreciated that during our hour lay over on the Boardwalk. Sometimes this lady that I've been with since 1971 really does amaze me :)

On leaving Santa Cruz back to Felton the conductor did mention that in the good old years trains would come in to the boardwalk area from the San Francisco area with passengers that would stay in the grand hotels on the beach that are no longer there. I wish to heck they had something like that from say Salinas to Santa Cruz and back. Salinas still has a station and it's only about 30 minutes from us by car and I'd sure enjoy riding the train more than driving.

Sunglasses don't work for me when I start hyperventilating. My wife knows my signs like a book :)

Well they must have more than 1 shay as the article I rode on did not have a wood cab, or a green boiler. I went back an looked closely the shay I rode behind I believe was a 60 Ton as the water tender was on an articulated truck, the wood cabbed shay would be a 30 Ton? Two vs three trucks?

YEah they have more than one…the Dixiana Shay is the smaller two truck model from a mine operation in Northern Virginia on the Interstate RR. They also have Westside Shay No7 on the property, http://www.shaylocomotives.com/data/lima3354/sn-2465.htm

I’m upset considering the title…I fully expected bikini’s with boobs and roller skates…but hey if Jedi master Ken is happy then we all live to see another day!

I'm sitting here watching Law and Order SVU reruns on TV and I think I almost saw one of them boobs slip out. At least I think I did. My memory tells me what they look like but ..................................
